He came west from Greenfield, Huron Co, OH sometime in the 1850s to Tehama County. He died on 16 Feb 1873 in California. His wife was Loviah ARTHUR Starr and she died on 2 Apr 1868 in California. Children are Carrie Jann STARR, b. 27 Nov 1859; Julia Blanche STARR, b. 2 Feb 1862; and Frank Arthur STARR, b. 3 Apr 1865. A sister of Matthew settled in Yuba City.
