Per interview with Bob E. Dodson on April 20, 2000 This story my father has told to me was told to him by a Charlie DODSON in Yreka, Siskiyou County, CA (prob. around 1950-60s). There was also a Thomas DODSON, seemingly unrelated, in the Klamath River area north of Yreka, who, in my fathers opinion, was from the same line of DODSONs. I would like to be able to locate these men's families to compare notes and hopefully further my/our research. Thomas DODSON is probably in his 80s now and Charlie DODSON is most likely deceased. It is believed that Thomas DODSON, who lived along the Klamath River in Siskiyou Co., CA relocated to the area of Red Bluff, Tehama Co., CA. Anyway here is the story! It is about the migration of a ship captain, a pirate, ( surname or given name of) DODD who got into some terrible trouble in England and was forced to leave. Before leaving England he owned three pirate ships. He gave one to a Norwegian ( & family?), gave one to an Italian & family ?) and kept one for himself. [I suppose he could not sail all three himself]. DODD and the two men loaded up their ships with their belongings (family?) and sailed. The Italian, it is believed, took his ship to the Mediteranian. The Norwegian and DODD came to the "new world", to the Carolina shores, around 1630. [I know, it sounds like the beginning of one of those ethnic jokes.] DODD set up a base camp on the Carolina shores and pirated the shore lines, around Florida. Barbados and along the Texas shorelines as well. When more pressure was on him he took his ship up into a river of the Carolinas and settled there. There were four or five sons and one daughter. Bob, in an earlier interview, said she returned to her country of origin. During this interview he suggested she might have married one of the Norwegian clan. [I do not have any of their names.] Bob said when the sons split up and moved west they first made an agreement to go by the surname of DODSON, which stood for Dodd's sons. Bob went on to say some of the DODSONs went to Missouri, and Bob's branch went to Kentucky. [So, Kentucky is perhaps where I should be looking.] I have yet to figure out the names of these people and when the migration occurred to CA, and why. So far, I have not gotten them out of CA to even be in Kentucky. I know, I know it doesn't sound real, but .... maybe it is. And it is what I have to go on. If anyone has heard this same or similar story or knows of the family of Thomas or Charlie DODSON please e-mail me.
