    3. The following was posted by Terri Sarain Harter <btharter@colusanet.com> on January 9, 1999 on the Query system for Tehama County: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SURNAMES: SARTAIN I'm looking for past relatives that came to Tehama County in the late 1800's. First name David, middle name Eldridge, last name SARTAIN. He came to California with a wife Sarah E. Kivett, and two children; son James Henry and daughter Aveta Loga. They divorced in Colusa County. David remarries Hattie Black of Tehama County in Colusa County. They move to Tehama County. Hattie dies December 24, 1884. David marries a third time to Annie Wyancoup, Dec. 8, 1891. I don't know if he had anymore children, but he remarries a fourth time to an Emma. Another relative which came with David, is James Madison Sartain, and wife Lucy. They brought with them possibly 3 children; Thomas Jefferson, Louella, and John W. Lucy died, possibly in Tehama County, November 4, 1884. She's buried in Colusa County. John W.(age 7 yrs old) is also buried in Colusa. James remarried Margaret Griffey in Colusa and they moved to Tehama County. It looks as though they had twins, James D., and Adda Belle born Jan 1886. David Sartain's son James Henry marries a Jeannie. I don't know if they had children. James Madison Sartain's son Thomas Jefferson marries Edith E. and has two daughters; Hazel D., Jessie E., as well as a son Thomas M. If there is any decendents of any of these people, they are possibly related to my Great Great Grandfather Wright Sartain of Missouri or his brother David Sartain, also of Missouri. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Any replies should be sent to <btharter@colusanet.com>. -- ============================================================ CAGenWeb County Coordinater -- Kern, Imperial, and Tehama Counties, CA Kern Co: http://www.compuology.com/cagenweb/kerncty.htm Imperial Co: http://www.compuology.com/cagenweb/impercty.htm Tehama Co: http://www.compuology.com/cagenweb/tehamcty.htm ============================================================

    3. I am posting this to warn others about problems with ; Census Microfilm Expeditors 476 E. South Temple , Suite 4 Salt Lake City , UT 84111 website ; www.censusmicrofilm.com e-mail ; gme@nwinfo.net and ; sj@censusmicrofilm.com I was lured to order several microfilm copies from this company with "guarantees" of "speedy delivery" and "low price" . My order was placed in October of 1998 and as of this posting I have not received the order or a refund after numerous contacts with Steven Jensen at this firm . In his occasional replies he repeatedly gave false information to me as to the status of the order and cashed the check when mentioned stopping payment on it .I have copies of all documents and correspondences for those interested . Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the United States Postal Inspectors , they have informed me that even they can't order this company to give a refund , but may seek criminal charges . I guess small claims court is next . If you are seeking genealogy resources......consider my experiences with this "Firm". Thank you , Kenneth Sartin researching ; Sartin , Sartain , Sarton , Sarten , Sardin etc. etc.

    2. Richard Malatzky
    3. I am a Baseball Historian and am attempting to find the exact date and place of death of a former major leaguer by the name of George McMullen. All I know about him is that he was from California. In a search of the 1920 Cal census, I found 2 George McMullin's and one McMullen with ages within the range I would expect of a ballplayer 33 years after his major league appearances. The George McMullen was 59 born California and living on Washington St, Red Bluff,Calif. I don't have any idea if this is the ballplayer but he is the only George McMullen in the census. Any help with regards to people or institutions that I can write to would be greatly appreciated. Richard Malatzky

    3. I want to thank all of you that directed me to the research areas I'll need to visit on my trip to Tehama Co later this year. You'll now how much I appreciate your help by this little antidote: Last year I traveled about 300 miles to Tehama Co, knowing that at the end of my journey I will arrived at the home of my father, as well as the home of my grandmother. Little did I now that the town of Lyonsville no longer existed....after all, it still appeared on my current California map! On my journey, I did see a sign for 'Lyonsville' and took the road, although several signs on the road kept saying ' keep out' and 'private road'. I was so happy to be traveling to my ancestor's home area that I just ignored the signs and thought, 'It's on the map...I'll find Lyonsville soon!" Well, I learned better! I now know that Lyonvsille no longer exists but with your help, I have hopes of learning more about this non-existance town. Thanks again, Carol Hall Sutherland Lebec, CA

    2. Tehama County Records are at the courthouse in Red Bluff and at the Public Library across the street. The Library is great. It is a retired Safeway store that has been converted into a big user friendly library. Be sure to notify the library by mail that you are coming so that they can arrange for a volunteer to be there to help you. Re mapsÂ… I like the USGS maps for working in the old mining camps. You should be able to find them on the Internet, and order by mail anything you need. Get the 7 minute map as it will show the most detail. Let me know if you need help here. There is a USGS not too far away. Check the LDS films for Tehama County, too. There are several collections available on film, and in Tehama Co, too. I found one series of books at Chico State. And another at the Tehama Co. Library in Red Bluff. Each had info the other didn't have. Check above for surname, subject, business name and location. There is lots of info. Also consider checking out the Tehama County Historical Museum in Tehama (town). They have an annual magazine that has very good articles worthy of reading. Have a fun trip. It will be very hot there in mid summer. Bonnie Bliss San Jose, California

Lyonsville was located about 45 miles east of Red Bluff and was the home of the Champion Lumber Mill. My ancestors lived in this area from about 1886 to 1907+.
