Hi folks, I have been asked to help supply a list of "The 10 Most Historic Events in Catawba County in the Past 125 year." (since 1879) I need your help to help put this together. I think this project deserves some serious attention. This post is directed to folks who know and care for our Catawba Vally heritage and who might contribute to this effort. Should you have access to microfilm, the "Newspapers in Catawba County" http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawb/Newspapers.htm you might choose to contribute. The Newton Library has most of the central Catawba County newspaper micro film. The Patrick Beaver Library generally has most of the Hickory papers. While there is some double coverage, they pretty well cover the county. Please be willing to help transcribe some of these old newspapers. They hold the memories of our Catawba Valley ancestors. Let me suggest a few events: · The Miracle of Hickory (Great Polio Epidemic of 1944) · NC Governer Clyde Hoey Visits Conover (1940) · Hickory’s First Airplane Flight (1912) · Sunday School Murder (1908) · The Great Flood (1916) · Lenoir-Ryne College forerunner founded (1890) · Concordia College destroyed by fire, death of Dr. Fred T.
