I recently visited Catawba County and saw the Rock Barn on Frederick Hoke's old homeplace. Actually, I should say that I saw what was left of it. The lady who lives there was gracious enough to let me and my family members walk up to it and crawl through the bushes to see the only remaining side that is completely made of rock. Does anyone know more about when this structure was built? A family legend that was passed down by my great-uncle Ernest Dagenhart, indicates that our ancestor, Heinrich Degenhard (Henry Dagenhart) helped to build it along with other men from the neighborhood. Any thoughts or other legends related to the Rock Barn?
