Agnes, Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think Anna Best was living with her parents near High Shoals. Her parents were both grandchildren of the immigrants Peiter Heyl (Peter Hoyle) and Bostain Best. Anna's parents left the area in the 1830 and settled in Tennessee. Eli and Anna settled in Cherokee County, NC in 1848. The Mathesons were in Iredell and Burke in the early 1800s. Of course, there still a few around Taylorsville. I've often wondered how Eli met Anna. He was the grandson of Highland Scots and lived near Taylorsville. She was of German stock living near what is today the border between Lincoln and Gaston Counties.
