    3. Seeking to contact any and all descendants of WILLIAM SILAS DEAL. This member of the "Fallen 600 of Catawba County" lies in a faraway grave. His life was given in the defense of his country. Sadly, the cause of death was not from battle wounds. A victim of typhoid fever, he quickly wasted away and was buried in the cold, damp earth of Point Lookout Prison, Maryland. A member of St. John's Church and leader of the laity before he left for war, Silas Deal still has no marker in Catawba County to remind us of the brave sacrifice he made. After 138 years, isn't it about time? In cooperation with any and all descendants, the CF Connor SCV Camp #849 will make the memorialization of William Silas Deal a priority project. Any and all assistance that we can provide will be a fulfillment of our charge: "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish. [Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General, United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906.] When the time comes to place a memorial marker in Private Deal's name, we would like any and all descendants to have an important role. Please contact me if you are a descendant os W.S. Deal and you will be kept up to date on any developments. The history of William S.
