In the church book of St. James Lutheran, Newton, Catawba Co., NC there is a record of the marriage of Lewis M. Hewitt/Huitt and Frances Ann Moose with the date of 30 Jan 1887. In the Catawba County Cemetery books there is a record of the deaths of these two people. The tombstone reading for Lewis says he died 25 Nov, 1890 which puzzles me because when I find Frances Ann Moose Hewitt/Huitt a widow with three children, Georgia b July 1891, which would be ok but there are also Myrtle b July 1895 and Mary b Nov 1896. I wonder if the gravestone reading is in error, and should perhaps read 1899? Does anyone have more information about this couple? Does anyone know what caused Lewis Hewitt/Huit's death? Agnes-- Looking further, I found that (listed with Frances Ann Moose Huitt/Hewitt in 1900) Myrtle Estelle Huitt/Hewitt m. Ray M. Hunsucker 1895-1930 & buried in Conover City Cemetery; and Mary Jane "Molly" Huitt/Hewitt m. a Pinkney Pope. Where I ran across this I can't remember as it's been so long ago. Whether any of this is correct is debatable. I thought it was interesting that two different Lewis or Louis Huitts/Hewitts had daughters with almost same given names. Hopefully, someone over in Catawba Co. can peruse that tombstone in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery and recheck that date of 1890 or 1899. Ann Agnes-- I have a Myrtle Hewitt b. 28 Jul 1893-13 May 1983 who m. a Morris, and Mamie b. April 1898, d/o Lewis Jerome Hewitt and Cora B. Yount. Perhaps these two young ladies were visiting Frances Ann Moose Hewitt?
