Per 1880 Catawba Co., NC Census, p 4, listed are: Frances Hoyle Gross, widow; Absolum Alexander Gross, his wife, Julina, and daughter Ider. Per 1900 Catawba Co., NC Census, Vol. 1, p. 262 of the Millennium Edition, date of death for wife, Julina is 28 May 1881. Absolum A. Gross m. (2) Martha E. Johnson in 1883. Did not see a listing for Ider in 1900; did she marry or die? In 1860 Catawba Co., NC Census, p 4, is listed Julia Eliza Ann Gross b. c. 1859, d/o Ephraim Gross and Frances Hoyle Gross. In "Catawba Cousins," Vol. 9, No. 3, Dec 1994, p. 27 (C. C. and M. M. Bost Diary) are the following two entries in 1881: May 10. Miss Julia Gross and her mother burned while pouring kerosene in stove to start fire.. May 28. Julia Gross died from effects of burns a few weeks ago.
