Help, I need information! In 1899 my Mother was baptised by Pastor Arndt who was pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church at Iron Station, NC. I have not been able to find information stating the exact location of such a congregationl. I would appreciate any help that you can offer in locating the exact place where this Church or Congregation met. My Mother attended a Stroup School House which was located on Hovis Family Land just south of the Seaboard Railroad just about one mile south-east of Iron Station, NC. For those who are familiar with the area, this was very near the location of what was a Chicken processing plant in the 1950's and 1960's. When I first looked at my Mothers Baptism Certificate, I was thinking that the Pastor was from Bethel Church near Pasour's Mountain. I had never known that there was a Congregation named Bethel in Iron Station. The reason I think this congregation met at this particular school House is the fact that this was the school house that my Mother walked to for her eitht years of education. I also found a reference in History that perosns of the Baptist Faith were holding services at the Stroup School House. The location was not given. In my early years it seemed that we always went to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, east of Alexis every year for their HOME COMING Service. Now that I have become familiar with History, this must have been done to keep in touch with members of the Phillip Hovis family, expecially the children of his second wife, Delaney "Laney" Stroup. If you have information which shows that this idea is all wrong, Plese let me know. Help confirm my guess or tell me I am wrong. Have a great Day. Pat C. Cloninger Newton, NC.
