Dear Jean, Something bothers me about the records for this Sidney Yount. Catawba County Marriages say he married Laura Bolch 15 Jan 1888. He was age 40, the son of John and Anna Yount. Then in the 1900 Catawba County Census in Catawba Precinct, Sidney and Laura Yount are listed as having been married 20 years rather than 12 years. His age is given as 63, not consistent with that stated in the 1888 marriage record. If he was 40 then, he should have been 52 or 53 in 1900. Were there two Sidney and Laura Younts? The oldest children of the Sidney in the 1900 census were born well before 1888. Thus, was this really a different Sidney that was married about 1880? If so, was he the one charged with bastardy? Did he later marry Laura Gant about 1880? She would have been only about 14 years old. But could have been a "shotgun wedding." I just noticed this discrepancy after sending my earlier response to Dan.
