I am a native of Catawba County and now I am the Historic Preservation Planner for Greenville, NC. This is a most unfortunate situation. Does anyone happen to know if a 365-day stay of demolition has already expired? On historic builings they can be subject to a 365-day stay of demolition if it is a Local Landmark, so that concerned citizens or the local Historic Preservation Commission or Historical Society can pull together resources to stop the demolition. Possible alternative would be to see if the house could be moved to a new location. I would check with the Lincoln County Historical Society if there is one. Try to get the media involved so that the public will become aware of the situation. There may be someone out to help. In the end, the owner can demolish the property. Hope this helps. If this house is on the local or National Register, there would be a time period before demolition. Mr. Darrell Harkey is in charge of the local historic preservation commission in Lincoln County. He should be contacted.
