    1. [CATAWBA-WEST] NC Volunteers to Army of Texas, 1836
    2. In 1836, James Pinckney Henderson returned to Lincolnton (his home town) and ask for Volunteers to join the Texas Army. Besides the Army pay, they were to receive Bounty Warrents for 1280 acres after serving their term of enlistment of one year. My ancestor, John Hutchinson Harry raised a company of men from this area to go to Texas. Captain John H. Harry left NC with 77 men. He traveled to Nashville, TN then to New Orleans, then by boat to Texas. Only 64 men sailed from New Orleans, so along the way, he lost 13 men. (Probably both death and desertion). I have located 37 men so far who joined the Army of Texas at Lincolnton, Lincoln Co. NC in October 1836. Are any of these men members of your family you been looking for?
