Dear Mary and others, The document comes from the NC Archives, 060.326.4, Lincoln County Criminal Actions, in the 1822 case of the State vs. Lawson Henderson. The document is dated 17 Aug 1826. The relevant information is at the beginning: "The Rev'd Lawrence Lenhardt a member of the Dunker Church, being conscientiously scrupulous of taking an oath, solemnly affirms that sometime in the winter of 1822-23 as well as he now remembers he went to Lincolnton..." My descent is through his son John, who married Susanna Kistler in 1816 and died in 1825, leaving five orphans Ann, Eliza, Lawrence, William and Eve; their uncle Daniel Lenhardt became their guardian on 16 July 1827. Anna Lenhardt mar. David H. Craft; Lawrence Kistler Leonhardt mar. Jane M. Reid, Mary L. Reid, and Mahalia Baird, all of Gaston County; William R. Leonhardt mar. Annie England Carpenter; and Eva Susanna Leonhardt mar. Henry Summitt. Does anyone know of Eliza Leonhardt? Knowledge of the Dunker affiliation was not passed down in my family line. Did persons in other branches of the family know about this?
