In time gone by did the South Fork Church become St. Paul's Lutheran Church? Is there any connection between the South Fork Church and St. John's Lutheran Church outside of Conover, NC? Am a Methodist so I do not know a lot of Lutheran history! Ray Smith
Ray, The South Fork church did become Old St. Paul's Lutheran and Reformed Church. Old St. Paul's was a union church of the Reformed and Lutheran Church. Other ministers preached here though the years, as we did not have a full time minister for many hyears.. Old St. Paul's was, probably, the oldest church in the area. However, Mark Smith's fine book "Lift High the Cross" believes there was a very early other church in the area that is in Newton today. Rev. Johan Gottfired ARends records of the South Fork church were Lutheran records. Other German families were Reformed. The two Lutheran churches (Reformed and Lutheran) agreed on everything. but the meaning of communion. Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray H.
