In reply to the following: I have a copy of Mcallister's Newton Enterprise extracts dated 1881 - 1888 and there is nothing in there about the death of William Yoder, or about his life nor anything about his wife. So you can scratch that one. I don't know if any of the other papers have similar volumes available. Most public libraries have a service where one can get filmed copies of newspapers from everywhere and for most dates. These services are either free or have a very minimal fee attached. Sometimes all that's necessary is a phone call to discover what newspapers are available. Ask for the reference desk. Church records seldom indicate the cause of death, but if the funeral home that served the family is still in existence they would have that information. Surprising how many of those records have survived. Agnes C. --------------------------- From: "Carolyn Lyson" <Carolyn_Lyson@aw.org> Subject: [CATAWBA-WEST] Newspapers in 1880s Hi folks, Having come up with a possible death date for my William Yoder, thanks to help from some of you, I am now trying to see if I can find an obituary and figure out why he died so young. According the the Catawba County GenWeb site, there were three papers in business at the time of his death (9 Apr 1884): Newton Enterprise Piedmont Press Western Carolinian However, not being local, I have no idea whether any of these papers would have covered news of William's death. I do not know exactly where he was living when he died. He and Mattie were married in a relative's house (Aj Seagle, I think it was) in Lincolnton in 1880, and the cemetery record sent me by Roy was from Salem/Lutheran Reformed Church cemetery. My only other clue is his residence prior to marriage in Jacob's Fork TWP. Is there anyone who knows the area well enough to know if any of these papers might be relevant? Thank you.
