Hi, Terri-- There was George [Lagle] Lail m. Ann Melissa Starnes on 23 Feb 1857 Catawba Co., NC by E. Yount, J.P. I am unaware of who the parents were for either of them. Children: George W., c. 1858, m. Ellen J. Deitz in 1879 Catawba Co., NC; Eliza J., c. 1858; Ransom c. 1859; and Susan 18 Feb. 1862, m. James W. Abernethy in 1879 Catawba Co., NC (both buried in (old) Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Catawba Co., NC. There was a dau. of Ephraim, Mary E. Stallings (is this Elizabeth?) who m. Pont C. Is he related to the George LAGLE who appears in the 1860 census of Catawba Co.? (See below). Is he perhaps the George LAYEL who appears in Catawba Co., NC, in 1880 with a wife named Ellen? We can find no trace of him after 1880. Does anyone know who the Elizabeth STALLINGS living with the Ephraim RINCK family in 1870 is? A RINCK daughter, Ann Emeline, married a Levi STALLINGS on 25 August 1870 in Caldwell Co., NC. He appears in his parents household (Nelson STALLINGS, Catawba Co.) in 1870, one week before his marriage, but there is no sign of Ann RINCK in this particular census. Elizabeth STALLINGS is about the age that Ann Rinck STALLINGS would have been, but the name is not even close to Ann Emeline. We have wondered if the Ann married to George LAGLE in 1860 could have been Ann Rinck, but she was only 15 at the time and was enumerated in her parents' household in 1860. A 13 year age discrepancy would seem unlikely. Even if Ann M. LAGLE were Ann E. RINCK, she was too young to have been the mother to Eliza and Ransom. There are no records for Eliza or Ransom after 1860. I have entertained the possibility that Ransom LAGLE may have been named George Ransom LAGLE, but I have no data to support such a theory. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.
