Hi Everyone, According to the Lagle / Lail Family Book, Marth Ann Lagle / Lail, daughter of Joseph Lagle / Lail and his first wife Mary __________, supposedly born abt. 1851 in Burke Co., married William STALLIAMS on 04 April 1869 in Catawba Co. When I checked the published marriage records for Catawba Co., I noticed that Martha Ann was listed as Martha Ann SEAGLE, daughter of Joseph and Mary. It is not unheard of for a LAGLE to show up as a SEAGLE, so I did some further investigation. I first located William, who is really a STALLINGS, living with his parents, Elisha and Mary, in Lincoln Co. in 1860. I then found a Martha Ann SEAGLE, living with parents Joseph and Mary, in Catawba Co. in 1860. William, Martha, and son Luther are in Lincoln Co. in 1870. By 1880 William is dead and Martha and her children are living next door to her widowed father. I would have to say that the evidence points to Martha being a SEAGLE rather than a LAGLE. I would need to check the marriage certificate or her death certificate to be sure, but I am pretty well convinced that Martha, wife of William STALLINGS, was probably Martha SEAGLE, and that Joseph and Mary LAGLE never had a daughter named Martha Ann. I posted this information to the Lail family forum to see if Don Lail knew if there was a source other than this marriage record for the existence of a Martha LAGLE, daughter of Joseph and Mary. He replied that he was inclined to agree that Martha STALLINGS was not the daughter of Joseph and Mary LAGLE. I was hoping that someone on the list familiar with the STALLINGS and / or SEAGLE families might be able to confirm whether Martha STALLINGS was a SEAGLE or a LAGLE. Thank you for your help.
