Again I have a dilemma. WILLIAM FRANKLIN EPPS 1872-1963 (son of John A. Epps and Julia Shores who were unmarried) married LILY PEARL MOOSE 1887-1969. Lily Pearl was the daughter of JOHN MOOSE and CANDACE SHOOK, according to the marriage record. I can find no evidence that these two were ever married. I do find the following: 1900 LILLIE MOOSE age 13 was living with her mother CANDACE age 36 who is married to a QUINCY CHRISTOPHER. The father of Candace, JACOB SHOOK age 87 is living in the same household. The marriage register for Catawba Co. shows QUINCY CHRISTOPHER married to CANDACE SHOOK March 1898, which makes one wonder why she was not married as "Candace Moose", since that was supposed to have been her name. There are those who claim that John A. Epps was married to Julia Shores, but he never was. He was instead married to Ellen Pernina Deal, who was an aunt of my mother-in-law. William Franklin Epps was born out-of-wedlock, and he was not the only child John A. Epps fathered out of wedlock, by a long way. He did produce children with about 4 women that I know of and married only one. Right now I am trying to straighten out the Candace Shook and Lilly Pearl Moose thing.
