Hi, all-- While rummaging thru some genealogy files at the Commission on Historial Properties in Brevard, NC the other day, found the following from "The Transylvania Times," Thursday, June 5, 1975, Cherokee Removal One of Great U.S. Tradegies" by Harold T. Ellis-- >From April 1838 to sometime in August 1838, Captain James Watts Killian served as commander of local militia from parts of what is now Buncombe, Henderson and Transylvania Counties, NC which took part in this sad part of this country's history. I thought some of you might be interested in the names listed on the roster. Quoting from this article--"The roster appears as copies from records in the U.S. War Department. Clarence Griffin of ForestCity, N.C. was the first to publish the names of the thirteen North Carolina Companies who served in the Indian Removal.
