    1. [Catawba-West] wilfong
    2. Agnes E. Cloninger
    3. Pat Is this the John Wilfong who married Sue Abernathy 6 Sep 1859? Such a couple are living with the family of the widow Abernathy in 1860 BUT there are is another couple, John M and Susan Wilfong living with John Wilfong and the other members of the Wilfong family named below. Sometimes people were listed twice in the same census, In the 1850 census of Catawba Co. on page 334 there is a Wilfong family John Wilfong age 36, Louise age 40, Henry 20, Martha 17, Vardy age 18, JOHN M age 12, Yancy H age 9, Sidney age 6, Charlie age 5 and Quincy A. age 1.All born Catawba Co. This family is well to do with a valuation of $18,000, in 1860 they are still wealthy. In the 1850 census of Catawba County on page 308 there is another Wilfong family with an 11 year old son named John.THIS ONE APPEARS AT HOME UNMARRIED IN 1860 David Wilfong age possibly 80 with Catherine age 21, Sarah Ann age 14 and JOHN age 11 all born Catawba County. I recall that there is a paper in the Catawba County Genealogical Society Room in the Newton Library concerning the Wilfong family, but it has been a few years since I saw it, so my memory may have failed me, and it could have been Whitner. Does Mrs. Drum know anything else about the family that might be helpful in untangling this information? Agnes Cloninger ____________________ >From: "Pat C.
