    1. [Catawba-West] Bibles at Lenoir-Rhyne

    3. Hi, cuzzes, I tried to run down the story in the Heritage of Catawba Co. about Matthias Barringer's Bible being at Lenoir Rhyne College. It's not, but some of you might be interested in what I did find out, pasted below. Best wishes, Gene in Gotha <I looked today but, so far, have been unable to find a Barringer Family Bible in our collections. We do have some old German bibles, but none that appeared to be from the Barringer family. Some of the materials from our archives were transferred to the archives of the North Carolina Synod of the ELCA thirty or forty years ago The Synod Office did not have a Bible designated as a Barringer donation. They do have German Bibles, one associated with the Harz family (I think that's the name). I spoke to Peggy Bollinger (704-633-4861). As I mentioned we also have some German Bibles, but none identified as Barringer. I found German bibles with Moeller/Miller family inscriptions, with Everly and Finch inscriptions and an English one with Mauser family entries. We have German bibles donated by Mr. and Mrs. Reinhard Schumann, Miss Annie Rowe, and Mr. J.A. Bourd. A German New Testament donated by Mr. Bourd was published in Nuremburg in 1793. I may check one other source about the Barringer Bible. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.
