I have been trying to identify a man named John Slumpoff late 1700's, early 1800's risiding in Lincoln Co., NC. He appears on some of my Reel family deeds and appears to be related, probably by marriage. He signs on two releases to the Legatees of Johan George Reel, dated 3 April 1795 and he signs as a witness on a deed of 3 August 1797 which was a part of the land settlement of the children of Johan George Reel. On the later deed he signs with the sons and son in laws. Johan George Reel left a will, which has mysteriously disappeared from the NC State archives, the only record of it is now found in published abstracts, giving names of some children , and that it was proved April court by Alexander Brevard. On the 1797 deed all the children, or brother in laws can be identified, except who or how this John Slumpoff is related. The identified Children of Johan George Reel and his wife Catharina Schnepp (Snapp) Reel are as follows: George Reel, Jr married Mary Stroup (Lincoln Co., NC) John (Johannes) Reel married Catharine Stuckey (Jefferson Co., KY) (migrated to Knox Co., IN) Jacob Reel married Elizabeth Nafe (Jefferson Co., KY) (migrated to Knox Co., IN) Elizabeth Reel married Michael Pinkley (little known of him, shows up in later Burke Co., NC, then may have migrated to Tennessee) David (Devald) Reel married Elizabeth Unknown (NC, they later migrated to Knox Co., IN) Lewis (Ludwig) Reel married Catherine Drake (Jefferson Co., KY) (migrated to Knox Co., IN) Godfrey (Gottfried) Reel married Catherine Cloninger (Lincoln Co., NC, later migrated to TN and then Knox Co., Indiana) Daniel Reel married Barbara Unknown (NC) (they later migrated to TN, AR., MO., and then into Texas) Catharina Reel married John Samuel Rintleman (Rendleman), Jr (Lincoln Co., NC) Two other possible daughters: Rachel Reel (Rill) married John Ramsey (Lincoln Co., NC) Mary Reel married Joseph Jobe Pendergrass (Orange Co., NC) John Slumpoff has me stumped. I can't find anything about him or a Slumpoff family. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who may be able to shed some light on this individual.
