Hi- A long time back and I can't remember which RootsWeb list the query was made regarding the surname DEALSNYDER. In "Catawba Cousins," Vol. 10, No. 2, Sep 1995, p. 14 is the entry of Henry Miles Dielensnider, son of ?, born 6 Dec 1825 per Births & Baptisms, St. Peter's Lutheran Church Records. On p. 15 listed is Susanah Deal, d/o Simon Deal, born 11 May 1829 and baptized in the same year; also is Silas Deal, s/o William Deal, born 12 Jan 1830 and baptized the same year. On p. 18 is the entry of Jacob Deal, s/o Simon Deal, b. 9 Jun 1832; baptized 29 Jul 1832. Ann Propst, Brevard, NC

Was this Catharine Lail > possibly a widow of a male Lail? Please steer me > in the right direction, thank you. Ann, Sylvanus is out of wedlock. Catherine is the dau of Henry Lagle b. 1784 or 1790 and Margaret Hedrick, chr. Feb 29,1834. Since we don't have a father I am guessing there is no bastardy bond. The Alabama thing is new. Where did you hear about this ? Also I believe Sylvanus was chr. Feb 28,1852 at St. Peters. That kind of clashes with a birth 5 days earlier in Alabama. Derick, and Ann Propst: Thank you so much for all the info you sent on this family and especially your sources, some of which I have from my research through the years. Linda B. Hoyle (NC), Margie Duke (CA), Rella Reid (NC), Kim Gordon (GA) and Caren Detgen (FL) are all WHITE cousins who have been doing the same research and have swapped our info. Thanks to all of them. I have the Catawba Heritage book and Fanny Cline (who is related to everyone in Catawba and surrounding areas) is mentioned once in the Abernathay/Abernathey family section as being married to Henderson Pinkney White. She, of course, is related to all of them. A note to Ann Propst - Fanny and Henderson White are related to over 100 Propsts in my Family Tree. We could be "Cousins". I feel that Henderson White had to be from the areas of either Rutherford, Burke or Lincoln since he married Fanny from Lincoln and moved to Caldwell where his children were born and died. . In the 1860 Caldwell Co. census there is a William White living close by with family but I have not been able to find anything on him and feel he could be related to Henderson. Hope others who read these queries will come up with some leads. Norma Mahaney

Hi Everyone, Seen this on my Military Brief Newsletter. I may be the last to find this out but incase I wasn't I wanted all to know about it. Sorry if you get it in more then one rootsweb list :) Have fun. Jean Buried Veterans Records Now On Web VA has made it easier and faster for the public to get answers about family history, old war buddies or famous war heroes. The agency put on the Web 3.2 million records for veterans buried at 120 national cemeteries since the Civil War. The VA's Nationwide Gravesite Locator, at http://www.cem.va.gov, also has records for some state veterans cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery since 1999. Joe Nosari, VA's deputy chief information officer for Memorial Affairs, said the records used to be on paper and microfilm. Private companies have put some of the information online and charged for it, but the VA information is free, he said. Naporlee, of Spokane, Wash., also learned her grandfather served with the Army's 161 DB unit, enlisting June 24, 1918. He was honorably discharged December 17, 1918. The VA's gravesite navigator includes names, dates of birth and death, military service dates, service branch and rank if known, cemetery information and grave location in the cemetery. The VA will withhold some information, such as next of kin, for privacy purposes. The site will be updated daily. Annually, about 80,000 veterans are buried at national cemeteries. The VA also hopes to add records for veterans whose families requested grave markers from the VA. Those markers may go to private cemeteries or cemeteries overseas.
ear Norma, I have checked this family and discover that you have about as much information on the line of HP White as anyone. Ancestry showed that your Clines are from Catawba County. I have the entire Cline line (I was on the Cline Reunion Committee 2000-2002) and Fannie-4 is dau. of John Jr.-3, John Sr.-2, Sebastian-1. Not very often does my database cover Caldwell county families unless they moved there from Catawba. You and Kim Dunlap Gordon define the family as follows: She quotes you. 1. :Henderson Pinkney (H.P.) WHITE was born about 1820. He died of Chronic Pancreatic Condition on 24 Jun 1862 in Hickory, Catawba, North Carolina. Henderson and Fannie lived in, and helped run, the old Hickory Tavern. :Fannie CLINE (daughter of John CLINE and Elizabeth "Betsy" HUFFMAN) was born on 6 Jul 1824 in Lincoln (Catawba) County, North Carolina. She died in Hickory, Catawba, North Carolina. Henderson Pinkney (H.P.) WHITE and Fannie CLINE had the following children: +2 i. :Andrew Gamewell WHITE (born on 24 Oct 1851). 3 ii. :William Pinkney WHITE. 4 iii. :Philip David (David) WHITE. +5 iv. :George Washington WHITE (born about 1862). 6 v. :Katherine WHITE. Hi, Need verification of the parents of Catharine Lail/Lael/Lagle/Lagel the mother of Sylvanus Lail/Lael born 23 Feb 1852 in Montgomery, AL; baptized on 14 Aug 1853 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Catawba County, NC. Was she the d/o of Henry and Margaret of Mecklenburg Co. b. c. 1835 who m. Milus Pope in 1866 in Catawba Co., NC? Another possibility might be Catherine Augustine Lail b. 15 Jul 1838 (d/o of Elias Lail and Louisa York) who m. in 1870 Morganton, Burke Co., NC David Settlemire. Was this Catharine Lail possibly a widow of a male Lail? Please steer me in the right direction, thank you. Ann Propst, Brevard, NC
Dear Fellow researchers: I'm still searching for grandmothers who married in the Lincoln Co. area 1760s to 1815. I feel that I have turned over every leaf, twig and stone, but still their maiden (and some baptismal) names elude me. If you should have probate records of your family that contain any documents on any of the following, please let me know. It might be the clue I'm looking for. I've begun "putting my house in order' and making an effort to organize all of my unpublished 57 year collection of materials and tie up even more loose ends (but that may never happen). I'm making an effort to preserve these records so that they will be available to the public in the future. If you can help me find these grandmothers, I would be ever so grateful! CREUTZ/KRITES/GRITES/CRITZ/CRITES and any other spelling of this name? Those who signed in German signed CREUTZ both in NC and MO Davault (often written as David) Critz shows up in Lincoln Co. NC with wife Sophia and purchased land on Killian's Creek 1763 and sells all of his land in Lincoln Co 1800-1802 and is in MO with his family on the 1803 census of the Louisiana Purchase. He wills to his six living children; The eldest son Peter whose wife was Mary on all records in MO documents but many claim he is the husband of the missing Margaret Fulbright named in William Fulbright's will.; Abraham who went to MO ca 1810 with several children and had more in MO, most of which went into Pope Co., AR; David: but have been unable to find this man any where but could be the one mentioned still at home in MO Land Claims of 1803. No indication found that he ever married or had a family. Barbara wife of Daniel Bollinger, Margaret wife of Peter Ground, Catherine widow of Jacob Slinkard, all left NC and in MO by 1803 He appears to have had a son John who is deceased by 1805 who also had one child in MO Peter Creutz (he signed his name in German) who appears to have been either a newlywed or married soon after coming to NC. (Appears to be brother of Davault Critz ) He sold his land in NC 1815 and the entire clan went to MO with him, or at least those still in NC. He too had several children, but left not one document with a spouse's name or a list of children. The latter having been determined by a process of elimination. However something peculiar going on in this family. Grandchildren's names appear with the following given names: several Conrads, William Henderson, James Anderson, Jacob Henderson, James Henderson Crites, etc all carried on down. No indication on how these names wandered in unless after some grandfather way back when! Peter Critz, Jr. appears to have a large family in NC & MO (and may be the one who fathered William Goodson who later changed his name to William Critz (remained in NC and married 1821 to Barbara Dellinger). Daniel b. before 1774 m. Barbara Kinder (LCM), no date but sometime in early 1790s. His widow was "Maria" and this may be a second wife rather than "Maria Barbara" Kinder. A quit claim deed in MO provides a fulll list of his children. Jacob (my line) b. ca 1770 m. mid to late 1790s in NC and went to MO ca 1810 He was widowed before 1819 and married Catherine Settlemire ca 1819 in MO, widow of Adam. He later is thought to be the one who m. 1825 in Madison Co., MO to Katherine Dellinger, widow of Phillip. A complete list of his children was made when son Peter died without issue 1833 Other sons could be Ephriam, Phillip, Peter, Jr., Henry and John Critz who m. 19 Mar 1799 Catharina Lorance, LCMB Some daughters of this family on LCMB Elizabeth Crites m. 20 Nov 1804 Peter Kinder who died in Mo 1813 Fanny Crites m.14 April 1813 Turner Duncan and was in MO 1830-40 census Catharine CRATZ m. 16 Aug 1810 Samuel Limming (Not sure this was a Crites or of the Valentine CRATZ family. Even the tiniest hit will be appreciated. Thanks Lorena

Plese understand this is not a reprint of the original; it is a volume of updates, corrections, and additional new material. Parts of the original book will not be reprinted in this text; however, they will be connected to this text through references to what has been left out or where we are adding new material. The first chapter of the book about the immigrant is, indeed, being done in its entire format with all new material added in the appropriate places. I simply DO WISH to clarify that this Vol II is NOT a TOTAL REPRINT with updates. ----- Original Message ----- From: Derick Hartshorn Sent: 3/27/2004 1:25:33 PM To: NCBurke-L@rootsweb.com;NCLincol-L@rootsweb.com;Catawba-West-L@rootsweb.com Cc: mirianda@friendlynet.com Subject: NEW HOKE BOOK-call for papers > > The book which has been the best (and only) reference on the HOKE family is > to be reprinted. > Solicitation for material has been made by the author. The book which has been the best (and only) reference on the HOKE family is to be reprinted. Solicitation for material has been made by the author. If you have anything relating to the HOKE family please read on. --Derick S. Hartshorn ------------------------------------------------- Dear Cousin Hoke, The time has come for which I am sure many of you have impatiently long awaited. It has been 23 years since the genealogy of the Johann Jacob Hoke family I... Hoke, bequeath was printed. I hope that all of you who either have purchased or have had access to a copy of the original have enjoyed your journey through our history. Finally, we have decided to publish Volume II with corrections, updated materials, and additions to the original volume. Hope L (Hoke) McConnell, who was instrumental in helping to collect material for the original book, is now deceased, as are many of the others who helped us. Therefore, I must depend on any and all of you who care to contribute material to help me with this volume. Some of you are my close relatives, some I have met in person, and some I have only spoken to by phone, while others of you have been only readers of my work. However, I implore all of you to help make this work as complete a record as is humanly possible. As you may now know, many corrections and additions can be made, and much new material can be added to this Hoke family history. Perhaps you have discovered errors; have more pictures, stories, or additions; can add all new family lines; or even place some of the fragmented families from Part lI in the original text into their rightful families in Part I. We really do want to make this volume as accurate and as complete as possible, even though we know a genealogy is obsolete by the time it is printed because change comes every second of time---this is the history of a family. I do not plan any further work on this family after this coming volume, but I will continue to collect your material if you wish to send it. However, I leave any subsequent publication in the capable hands of a future generation. We are looking at a one-year time schedule. Therefore, we need you to return your contributions to us by May 30, 2004, since most &the text is to be prepared this summer. Please direct your mailing to one of the following addresses: Jean A. We hope to reach as many of you as possible and are, therefore, using snail mail as well as interact access. The format and style of this volume will follow much the same design of the original book; the text will be completely indexed and will contain all material that is sent by you to be published. However, if you send color pictures, they will be rendered in black and white in the text because of the exorbitant price for color pictures in publication. Please double check and proof-read every name, date, and page of your submission. I will take your work in any form you care to send it, but we can only reproduce what you send. We cannot be responsible for incomplete information nor can we guess at information that is not clearly presented. We will return all pictures sent to us either with your book order or by special mailing after the book is published. I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you. However, if you personally do not care to help with the information concerning your family, please ask someone else who might wish to do so. I really do not want to omit any family who wishes to be a part of this history. We are selling the supplement by pre-publication orders only, and only one printing will be run. The cost will be determined by how much material is presented. At the present time we are able to estimate a book of 500-800 pages, hard bound will run between $50 and $70. We do hope that you understand it is very difficult to predict how much material might be sent to us in the next few months; therefore, it is also hard to predict a final price. Please give this letter your immediate attention. Furthermore, fill out the attached order form and enclose it and your down payment to reserve your copies of the book with the information you are submitting for your family. No refunds will be given once the orders have been placed. Only in some extenuating circumstance where we are unable to complete our end of the contract to deliver a book will we refund preorder payments. We will notify you of the balance due, not to exceed $30 as soon as we have a final price so that you can make arrangements to send the balance due. This balance will need to be sent before we can mail the completed volume to you. We are sincerely grateful for your contributions and your support in this major endeavor. I have a copy of an estate sale for one of my direct lines. There were three brothers. The second and third brother were listed as 'Admn', which I know is administrator. But the oldest brother, had 'B.S." penned after his name on the estate sale papers. He purchased several things and these initials were behind his name on every entry. Does anyone know exactly what this stood for? Thanks to all Sherry
I have been researching my Hefners in the Catawba area and have found many separate Hefner lines. My sister who also does research has volunteered to do a DNA on our line. It will take a while, and of course it is not worth anything at all unless one has other DNA's to compare with. So, I was wondering if any other Hefners have or plan to have DNA testing. It has to be the kind that is done only on male members of a HEFNER LINE. We have several male Hefner cousins and she has already obtained the sample, and I think it has already been sent in. I am not sure how long it will take. So is anyone interested? Wylene Alston
