"Now You Will Know The Rest Of The Story". Last Fall I told you about getting a phone call and on the spur of the moment went with a Doctor from Germany to see the Gravesite of Martin Coulter Sr. Several Weeks ago in January 2000 I told you about receiving a call from Dr. Chumley. Yesterday my Mail Man delivered a large envelope to me shortly after lunch. I was in the midst of feeding a lawn and adding some additional seed to the lawn to help provide for the needs of the Computer as well as to pay for the Utilities. Janet (my wife) could not wait. She spent the entire afternoon with the information since it is mainly her ancestors, but my tie in briefly along the way. We now have the records mainly complete on the Coulter family back to 1626. The booklet begins with the 1749 date when Martin Coulter Sr. sailed from England. All records before 1626 have been lost for whatever the reason might be. We now have the information about the beginning of a very small family growing out of Germany and helping to establish our country. It appears that the picture is now complete. I have photos of Churches, maps and rulers of the land. The records appear to be very complete. Now I will have to try to figure out how I can type some of the German words. This means learning more about this darn computer. It is already smarter than I am. It is interesting to see that the Coulters and Rhyne/Rein families came from the same general area in the beginning. If you have questions I will do my best to answer them for you. Have a great day. Pat C. Cloninger Newton, NC "Still walking by Clarke's Creek."
I am interested in receiving the above mentioned publication. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Juanita

Jerry, I found on the web a 20 pg. book written by Miles O. Sherrill "A Soldier's Story" The URL http://metalab.unc.edu/docsouth/sherrill/sherrill.html . He mentions the names of J. U. Long, Nicholas Sherrill and W. P. Sherrill. I was delighted to find this book when I did a search on the name Sherrill. I have a Sherrill line. I am researching the William G. MCARTHUR family of the Rutherford, NC area. William G. MCARTHUR was born in Nov. 3, 1818. He married Eliza Ellen MAGNESS who was born in 1819. The marriage was on NOV. 10, 1840 in Rutherford, N. C. The children of this family are Joseph Williamson Mcarthur, Benjamin Franklin Mcarthur, Sara Mcarthur, Jacob Magness Mcarthur, John Mcarthur, David Mcarthur, Eda Elizabeth Mcarthur and William Mcarthur (middle initial may be P or R ). Many members of the family moved to Independence, Arkansas and on to Texas. I am wondering if there is a family linked to this MCARTHUR-MAGNESS family still in the Rutherford area. We have a family member who received correspondence from a cousin in the early 1900s who still lived in the area. Any information would be most welcome. Thank you. Regards, B. Mcarthur

Alexander Beasley was the second born in the following-named family: Richard, Alexander, Mary, Rebecca, Jesse, Daniel, Ephraim, William, John, Rachel, and Elizabeth. He began the battle of life a poor boy, as did also his father before him. Was raised upon his father's farm to hard work, and in 1828 was united in marriage with Frances Fender, who was born in Ashe County N. >Rosemary, the book you mentioned "From Tom's Creek to Sherrill's Ford", is >one that I am not familiar. I have a Sherrill line back to Adam Sherrill. >Do you know how I could get a copy of the book? Linda in Lincoln Co. NC Hi Linda, I'm sending this to you and Lincoln List. These Wood, Lyon and Sherrill families who wrote this book are from High Point, NC They own Woodmark Originals ( a chair Co), PO Box 2448, High Point, NC 27261- inside the book fly page is written -copies can be gotten at that address, no phone # there, but I'm sure they gave copies to local libraries, this one was given to me by the Mrs. Rhodes at Catawba Co Library for free, (they had given her several copies), there is a copy there, but I don't remember if I saw it at the Lincoln Library. It has a huge amount of info on Catawba , Lincoln, old Tryon families, and earlier lines in VA, and other NC counties. It has charts of Kimball, Harris, Pearce in VA; and Sherrill, Setzer, McCorkle, Brandon, Weidner, and Dellinger in Catawba Co. I found a lot of my family in it. Small green book, 230 pages, published in 1985. Handy little item. Rosemary NC

I am trying to find the parentage of Isaac Harlin and John Short. Their father may be David Short, born 1811 in Catawba Co.(probably Lincoln at that time). Isaac (my ggrandfather) and John were also born in Catawba Co.,abt. 1845 and 1843 respectively. David was married to Luvina Propst, 1840, then Dorcas Roberson, 1843, then Myrah Sherrill(Bandy) abt.1850. I have hit a brick wall and would like very much to solve this puzzle. Don Short
Hi Debbie, I don' know your Woods names, but many are mentioned in the book "From Tom's Creek to Sherrill's Ford" The Wood, Sherrill, & Related Families, by Josephine E. Wood Lyon and Mary A Browning. I have a copy if you can't find one and would be glad to look up for you. Post to the list or mail me pivately. Rosemary NC >I have FENDERS who have married WOODS.
Hi Catawba-West Researchers, I am a silent reader of your web site hoping to find connections to some of my surnames. As yet I have no substantial connection although Woods has been mentioned and I have FENDERS who have married WOODS. I am sending you and address that will get you to Churches on the Internet from Catawba County. Most do not give Genealogy lists but do have an e-mail that maybe you can contact them through. http://www.twave.net/userlinks.asp?lnk=Church Hope this works if not go to http://twave.net and click on userlinks, there you will find the Churches. Lots of Luck Debby
My Curiosity Needs Help! On Saturday, February 12, 2000 as I was ready to sit down to eat my lunch, the phone rang. A lady was on a cell phone and asked if I was the Pat Cloninger that was involved in History and Genealogy in the Lincoln County area. I stated that I was that person. The lady then put a person on the phone with the name of Killian. His first name began with an 'E'. Did not understand the name. This call originated in downtown Crouse, NC. They were looking for a St. John's Lutheran Church to find the grave of an ancestor. I named some of the St. John Churches and my son Patrick picked up the Church History book and looked at all the St. John's Churches in North Carolina. Being in Crouse, they were almost in the front yard of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, formerly known as 'Beaver Dam Church', one of the very old historical congregations of the area. I would very much like to get in touch with the person who was searching in that area. With more background I believe Patrick and I can most likely give him some assistance in his search and guide him to the most likely place to find the information he is searching for. Please get in touch and quite my CURIOSITY. Pat C. Cloninger Newton, NC
Has someone worked in the Presbyterian Historical building in Montreat, NC? If you have, could you give me an address of any kind. I am searching for: "Journal of the Presbyterian Historical Society", XIV (1930), 28-41, 64-73. Has anyone worked in these records, and could you tell me where I might find a copy of this article? This is an account of the voyage of the "Maria Hope" which landed in Pennsylvania in September 1710. I would appreciate any help, Anne
