Hi List, Can anyone tell me about endorsements on marriage bonds? What was their purpose, when did they occur, and who wrote the endorsement? For instance, the Lincoln Co. bond for my John Bell and Susan Cloninger dated 10 Sep 1840 has this note: (end 1843) The bond for John Tetherrow and and Eliza Glammer (no doubt Clemmer is meant) has no date, but the statement: Endorsement in same hand as on bond of 1803. Now we know that John and Susan Bell were married in the fall of 1840. The question arises as to when John and Eliza Totherow were married - 1803 or earlier. The 1800 Census shows John Totherow, Jr. with a wife and child. Was this a previous marriage, or was this Elizabeth Clemmer Totherow and child? We know the Clemmers had arrived there by at least December 1798, so there was time for John and Elizabeth to meet and marry and have a child before the 1800 Census. Will appreciate any info. Dear Kirk and Malinda, and List: My Andrew and Katie Palmer Falls had a daughter Elizabeth, who married John Roper. Reference: Hoffman's Our Kin, p. 55. Our Kin states that Elizabeth Roper went west - place not learned, nor her descendants. Actually, she is buried at Old Pisgah ARP Church in Gaston Co., NC with the tombstone: Elizabeth Roper Died July 25, 1842 Aged 24 years, 23 days. No doubt this was a death of a young mother. It's likely her widower did move west. Does anyone know the parents of this John Roper, his dates, the date of marriage of John and Elizabeth, and/or his later place of residence? I ran into these entries at the Pennsylvania GenWeb Archives site, they relate to the St. Andrews WILDFANG/WILFONG emigrants. Too bad he didn't have entries as early as 1740 when our George was supposedly born. Does anyone else have any Pennsylvania information on this family, besides the ship's list of the St. Andrew? Hi, cuzzes, I tried to run down the story in the Heritage of Catawba Co. about Matthias Barringer's Bible being at Lenoir Rhyne College. It's not, but some of you might be interested in what I did find out, pasted below. Best wishes, Gene in Gotha <I looked today but, so far, have been unable to find a Barringer Family Bible in our collections. We do have some old German bibles, but none that appeared to be from the Barringer family. Some of the materials from our archives were transferred to the archives of the North Carolina Synod of the ELCA thirty or forty years ago The Synod Office did not have a Bible designated as a Barringer donation. They do have German Bibles, one associated with the Harz family (I think that's the name). I spoke to Peggy Bollinger (704-633-4861). As I mentioned we also have some German Bibles, but none identified as Barringer. I found German bibles with Moeller/Miller family inscriptions, with Everly and Finch inscriptions and an English one with Mauser family entries. We have German bibles donated by Mr. and Mrs. Reinhard Schumann, Miss Annie Rowe, and Mr. J.A. Bourd. A German New Testament donated by Mr. Bourd was published in Nuremburg in 1793. I may check one other source about the Barringer Bible. If I find out anything, I'll let you know. Hi List, Daniel Stamey, 1770-1857, was married about 1793 to Margaret Hudson, according to Eaker's German-Speaking People West of the Catawba River. Our Kin, p. 109, states that Barbara Totherow, daughter of John and Mary Hoffman Totherow (whose other children were married between 1797 and 1823), married Daniel Stamey. Of course, these could be two persons with the name Daniel Stamey. The problem is that there is a Lincoln County marriage bond: Dyer, George and Barbara Detherow, 28 May 1814, with John Shrum as bondsman. Question: Is this Barbara the daughter of John and Mary, and did she marry George Dyer instead of Daniel Stamey? Or is this Barbara who married George Dyer from another Totherow family, or even a widow Barbara? The Dudderer/Dotherow/Totherow/Tethero/Detherow family family research would be greatly helped by an answer to these questions. Thanks. Looking for information on Phillip Martin and George Martin in Burke Co and Lincoln Co NC. middle to late 1700's. Thanks Ronnie [email protected]
Good morning, Meredith, and all. Yes, we are cuzzes, your Mary is sister to my Louisa/Lou HUFFMAN who married Ephraim Abee. I also have the Hoffman pages relative to our family, plus a couple of other confirming secondary sources, and list of their marriage bond, that of Delilah SIGMOND and Joseph Huffman, son of Joseph HOFFMAN b. 1770 and Barbara REESE. I have plenty of information on their descendants, but nothing on Delilah's background, although I received extensive Sigman/Sigmond research material from a Sigman research group who have also been unable to place her. Be sure to double check everything in the Hoffman book pages, his descendancy on another line of mine, that of Catherine Hoffman who married Conrad YODER, was riddled with errors. You mentioned the cemetery listing for a Delila S. Huffman buried at Miller Lutheran in Catawba Co. This could be very significant, as it appears Delila died between 1847 and 1850. Where is this cemetery located in Catawba Co., and who is she buried among, especially other Sigman or Huffman names? Best wishes, Gene in Gotha
I need the e-mail of Linda Hoyle who lives in the Cat Square area of Lincoln County. Pat C. Cloninger Newton, NC
Does anyone have record of a marriage in North Carolina for: Michael CUPP (1740 NC - 1821 GA) & Barbara LAGLE/LAIL (1745 PA - 1820 GA) Almost clueless but not without hope in Texas. Wanda Bowlin Davis - Kerrville TX [email protected]
Can anyone start me on the parents and ancestry of Barbara REECE of Clark's Creek area who married Joseph HOFFMAN/HUFFMAN ca. 1790? Thanks, Gene in Gotha Always seeking ROOKS & BALLENTINE
As I continue preparing my mother's family heritage album, I keep running into unanswered questions on the ancestors of some of our Catawba area pioneers. Maj. George WILFONG 1740/1818 is one of them. Is he a member of the family that emigrated in 1734 on the St. Andrew, and since I don't have the originial citation, I've seen it given that the emigrant father was Johannes married to Elizabeth, by one account, with sons Johannes Jr., George Michael, and Sebastian, who later had our George, Jacob, and Nicholas, and by another account the emigrant father was George Michael and wife Elizabeth, with son Johannes, who was the father of our George, Jacob, and another son Nicholas. Can anyone tell me what Pennsylvania resource books mention this family? I've also been in communication with another WILDFONG researcher seeking connections with a George WILDFONG married to a Miss MILLER who had a son Michael in 1784, and wound up in Canada around 1800, having first gone to North Carolina>Indiana first. They also are looking at the same St. Andrews emigrants as ancestors. Always seeking ROOKS & BALLENTINE
I know this is off subject for this list but does anyone here know when the Peter Hoyle reunion is? I believe they hold it in Lincoln County in October. Thanks! Kurt Matheson

Good Afternoon List Members: I'm still struggling with the FREDERICK WISE History and have a lot of missing blanks to fill in on the Thomas and Barbara Wise Rhyne family. I desperately need to find someone working on the DAVID RHYNE family out of Lincoln/Gaston Co. area. He was the eldest son of John and Sarah Shuford RhyneI have gleaned as much as I can from census, wills, Our KIn, other published sources, and various proffered database files that I have been granted permission to use. I can only make it through David's children and grandchildren with few exceptions. I do not have dates and spouses for most of them 18 children are involved from the two marriages so I'm appealing to anyone who might be working on this family to help out here. the only reason anyone will not be included in this history is that I don't have the information on them. I'm looking for all descendants right down to the newest newborn baby. Some of the family went into Mitchel and Avery county, NC and one of my cousins of another line married into that family and sent me his own direct family. Just a smattering of what all I really need Now if someone will just make my day!!!!!
