I wrote that Jacob GARLAND and his wife, Elizabeth BOLICK were born between 1775 and 1784 based on the census. That was a miscalculation. Based on the census of 1800 and 1810 she/they were born between 1766-1774. Does anyone know the correct dates? Thanks Ida
I checked out the 1800, 1810 and 1820 census for Jacob GARLAND who married Elizabeth BOLCH, daughter of Adam BOLCH: 1800, Lincoln County, page 876 Jacob GARLIN 1m<10, 1m-26/44, 1f26-44 1810, Lincoln County, page 351 Jacob GARLING 1M-10/15, 1m-26/44, 1f-26/44 1820 Lincoln County, page 392 Jacob GARLAND, 1m-16/26, 1m>45, 1f>45 Jacob is listed in agriculture. I don't find a GARLAND in 1840 in Lincoln or any of the surrounding counties. Does anyone know what happened to, apparently, the only son of this couple who was born 1795-1800?? Also, Jacob GARLAND and his wife were born between 1775 and 1784 based on the census. Based on the birthdate of a child, their birthdates are probably closer to 1775. In addition, Anna Christina, wife of Adam BOLCH is usually listed as being born near 1730, so her being near 45-50 at the time of Elizabeth's birth is not totally impossible. Any thoughts? Do I actually have "our" Elizabeth Bolick here?? Ida
Did Elizabeth BOLICK, daughter of Adam BOLCH, marry Jacob GARLAND? I don't find this included in any online gedcoms. But can I submit the following: Lincoln Co. Deed Book 22/188: November 8, 1800 Jacob GARLAND is selling land that his wife, Elizabeth Bolick Garland received. It was part of a grant of 20 September 1779 to Adam BOLICK. Lincoln Co Deed Book 25/35: recorded January 1811 >From Grant of 20 September 1779 to Adam Boleck who willed it to Elizabeth Boleck his daughter. She married Jacob GARLAND. They sold to John MILLER 160 acres. Miller sold it to Adam BOLEK on 20 May 1805. The sale witnessed by David and Daniel BOLICK. Any thoughts? Ida Deal
Was Johan Adam Bolch and his wife Christina living with their son Godfrey in the 1790 census? It seems probable to me. Just wondered if this had been discussed before. Were the daughters Christina and Elizabeth (sisters of Godfrey) also still at home? The population of the household seems to fit this configuration. Godfrey Bolick 2m>16, 3m<16, 4f Looks as if Godfrey and his dad are the 2 over 16, the 3 young males are Godfrey's sons and the 4 females include Christina the mom and the wife of Godfrey and maybe Elizabeth the sister--who else? Any observations about this? Thanks Ida Deal

Hi folks: I'm new to the list, but have been researching the Hauss/Hause family of Lincoln County for 15 years. Specifically, I am looking for information/documentation about the pioneer, Jacob Hauss, who supposedly landed in Philadelphia in 1765, then immigrated to Lincoln County, where he settled in 1770. Any one who has info about Jacob that they would care to share would be GREATLY appreciated as there are many holes in his history that I would like to fill. Thanks in advance! Is there a collection of Old Soldiers Reunion pictures? Am seeking a picture of Aaron BOLCH and his brother Abel BOLCH who were veterans of Company C 28th Regiment N. C. Troops. In the event I cannot locate a picture of them that way are there descendants of Aaron that would possibly have a picture of him that they would be willing share? Aaron is my wife's paternal great grandfather. Thank You. Ray Smith

The Dixie Mill in East Maiden, I understand its on a list also and they are thinking about taking it down, to build apartments or something. Its a shame its one of the last places that is left in Maiden that is old. We need to be saving some of these landmarks or leave it there and build around the history. Mary
I am looking for information about the name HERTER. There was a William HERTER who lived in Catawba County about 50 years ago. I think he probably had a daughter named Arlene who is the one I am most interested in. This Arlene I search for was born in 1940 in New York. Can anyone help me? I appreciate it. Albert Peloquin

Would you have much information on the WORKMAN's. My great grandmother was Eliza WORKMAN and she married Wm Hastings. They lived in Maryland I believe. Thanks, Fran Cox franyv@juno.com
I sat down this morning to delete some e-mails when I ran across the notice about the Fry/Frye reunion. I remember that there were Frys in my linage. I don't have much at all about them. Malinda Fry married Noah Sigmon. Their son was John Henry Sigmon who married Susan Workman. Their daughter was Willie who married Edward N. Jarrett. She was my great grandmother. I have extensive files on the Lails, Jarretts, Reeps, Abernathys and Sherrills but nothing on the Fryes. Can somebody help me out? It would be nice to make the Frye Reunion, even though I may not know anyone, but , I am 300 miles away. I will be glad to share anything that I have on the above families. By the way, I get more and more homesick every day after reading all the e-mails on Catawba-west. I haven't lived there for over 30 years. For some reason I sure would like to be there for camp meetin' and the Old Soldier's Reunion. PS. I was born and raised in Maiden. Rick Lail 2500 Street's Ferry Road Vanceboro, NC 28586
I ;have been having computer problems, and have not followed this discussion. I wonder if you are discussing The White House in Maiden, which had the lovely twin chimneys. The Jenny Lind Forge is on the land. "The Last of the Iron Men" ("Newton Enterprise" 14 May 1897) was William W.Williams , born in Rockaway, New Jersay 14 November 1814, died Maiden 8 May 1897, and buried in Eastview Cemetery, Newton, NC. He was the son of William and Mary (Onstot) Williams. Wiliam W. Williams married Phoebe Wortman Wiggins 26 March 1835 in Morris County, NJ. I can send a great deal of rather interesting information if this is the house you mention. See: Newton Enterprise 26 May 1952, "Lewis White House East of Maiden Has Characteristics of Former Days". Mr. Williams bought the house from A. F. Brevard in 1860. The ;house was built in the 1790's by John Fulenwider. and operated an iron forge on the land... If this is any help, I have information on this house. If not, just delete! I spoke with Darrell Harkey, Lincoln County Historical Coordinator, he said that it was the Old Iron Master house that is being demolished. He said that it had burned several times and there was not enough of the building left to renovate. The Jacob Forney home is still standing. I have never been out to the Old Iron Master house so I am not an authority on the property. I am devoting my time to the Lincoln County Heritage Book Vol. II which has a deadline for September 30, 2003.
