I've now merged ALL the available data there is for the USA on Caswells, and the Taunton line starts off with several folks, Thomas & Richard, from the UK. Richard married Mary Slaney in London, but it does strike me as odd as to how everyone seems to think that he was the start of the Taunton Line. I spoke to Noreen Haler today and she told me that she understood from George Sanborn that he had presumed the the Taunton Caswells came from Somerset because of the same name Taunton in MA & Somerset. There was a group of Caswells in North Curry Som. at this time. However, there were many more active Caswell families around, especially the Wiltshire ones. Richard, although a common name, was specifically a Wiltshire one, as was Thomas. The Wiltshire Caswells had a captain in their ranks about this time. (I presume he was a captain of a ship) I'd like to let everyone know that I don't think ANYONE cane presume that the Thomas & Richard Caswells mentioned in so many USA databases are necessarily from Somerset or Herefordshire. To date, I have seen nothing to convince me that these trees are correct.
