Doris, Could you give me some more information on the Caswells in Cattaraugus Co., perhaps a report on a couple of generations? I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is a connection. My Caswells were also living in Cattaraugus Co. before they moved to Allegany County. Here is what I have on their movement in NY: Joshua Caswell Senior: living in Allegany Co. in 1783 Son of Joshua: Jotham Caswell family July 1811 - living in Floyd, Oneida Co. Aug. 1812 - livingin Cattaraugus Co. Jan 1815 - living in Seneca Co. (from 1818-abt 1830) the father of the Jotham (Joshua Sr.) is living in Cayuga Co. (He dies in Allegeny Co in 1832) I lose track of Jotham's family until they turn up in 1830 in Allegeny County. (I need to do some more census research) There is a Sylvanus Caswell living in Cattaraugus Co. in 1830, (age 20, living alone) that I along with another researcher are trying to confirm is a child of Jotham. I am also looking for a Martha Caswell who was Jotham's sister, but I have nothing on her except her name. One more clue on NY Caswells is that Jotham's father - Joshua Caswell - married for a second time to Lydia KING - there may have been children from this marriage, but as yet I have nothing more on this union. Maybe we can find a connection.........let me know who the other Caswells you mentioned are. I look forward to hearing from you again, Kathy Doris Wheeler wrote: > > Cathy, are the Allegany Caswells and Cattaraugus Caswells related? > Actually, there are three Caswell families in question: yours in Allegany, > mine in Eastern Cattaraugus and a third in western Cattaraugus -- all in > the same time period.
