    3. Doris, You've got a good point. There seem to be all these "unconnected" Caswells living in NY, in close proximity to each other during the early 1800s. Please add to the list Joseph Caswell (born between 1790 & 1800) who was enumerated in the 1820 Steuben Co., NY census. (Allegany is in the middle, with Steuben to the east, and Cattaraugas to the west.) I believe this to be MY Joseph Caswell, who was in the 1830 Trumbull Co., OH census, then bought land in La Grange Co., IN in the mid 1830s. He moved to Bureau Co., IL in time for the 1840 census, was elected Justice of the Peace, then disappears from the record after 1846. There seems to be a pattern with several of these "orphan" Caswells. They all have some sort of tie to one of the three NY counties mentioned, then they head west, and are usually found somewhere in MI, IN or IL. Then again, I've been at this "brick wall" so long, maybe I'm starting to see things! <g> Cheryl Luginbill timetraveler@apex2000.net
