    1. [CASWELL-L] A MERRY PEAL OF BELLS!
    2. Mike Caswell
    3. I have THE GREATEST PLEASURE in making the following announcement. My cousin Edward William Casswell and his wife Carrie Ann had their 1st son on the 15th of November 1998. Christofer James Casswell weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 3oz. They live at Rocky Point, New York, USA. I'm especially delighted with his name, because my father's, mine and my son's 2nd names are all James. The Trowbridge church of St James also has a very special relationship with this family. You will all probably remember hearing the bells play on moonrakers. 6 of these church bells are inscribed with Christofer's 6th gt grandfather's name - Richard Casswell. It is Richard's tomb in St James yard that we all clubbed together to restore 2 years ago. When I first went to Oregon to meet this branch of the family, they told me of a family legend that 'every time a Casswell son was born, the bells would ring in England'. The tale was passed down the generations, no one really sure if it were true. Earlier this year, Robin Holley found the following article for me in an old copy of The Wiltshire Times:- 10 jan 1858 At Bratton cottage, St. Eleanor's, Prince Edward Island, British North America. The wife of Albert Casswell esq. late of Trowbridge, a son and heir, on Wednesday last, a merry peal of bells was rung in his native town to announce the event. So, the legend was true! BUT!!!!!!!!!! There is MORE to come! I have made contact with Veronica Newman of Trowbridge, tel 1225 351217 (acting Bell Captain - Brian Coward is in hospital) and she has talked to the vicar and obtained his agreement for the following:- On 13 December 1998 at 5.15pm (British Time), just before the service of Peace & Light, the St James Church Bell Ringers are going to ring the bells once more for the birth of a Casswell in the New World!!! Now thats what I call 'family history'! Hopefully, they are going to try to make a recording of the bells, and I'll place it on the Moonrakers family history webpage for you in due course. I have forwarded a copy of this to The Wiltshire Times & Western Daily Press, who hopefully, will consider it newsworthy.
