    3. hi I saw your note to mike and I can quote an article from Charles Holloman noted authority on Gov. Richard Caswell of NC. "CASWELL,RICHARD (1685-24Apr 1755) colonial merchant, planter Md legislator...was a native of London. HIs fathers family was notable among the ranks of the English gentry; the lineage is traced to Henry Careswell (ff 1440) of Staffordshire, whose son,Robert Careswell became a prime officer in househole of Thomas, Lord Stanley, the first earl of Darby.Robert's son Jjohn Caswell of Wedon, shortened the surname, and this spelling was perpetuated among his descendants.Richard Slaney Caswell, father of thr Richard who emigrated to America, used the Caswell spelling in registering his lineage and his ancestral coat of arms with the royal heralds during the visitation of London in 1634." Maybe this will helpPerhaps Ricahrd Caswell and Mary Slaney had 2 sons,Thomas and Richard Slaney. Richard Slaney's wife ____Smith's people were engaged in overseas trade with the colonies.Dr. Holloman is most reliable-he he always indicates ifwhen something is unproven.
