Thank you for your reply. I've explored Hart and Hardin counties trying to make a connection. There is a John Caswell in the 1830 census of Bullitt Co. that I believe is Werter's father as Werter named his first son John Alfera Caswell. So, now I'm wondering the significance of the Alfera- have not found that as a surname, but obviously it has been carried down. Werter married and lived in in Louisville, Jefferson Co. in 1850 to Sarah Elizabeth Clark, daughter of Enoch Clark. Can't tell you much more about Werter before 1850 however, and don't know what happened to John in Bullitt Co that was listed in the 1830 census. Big puzzle- can you share which names and dates would be associated with your family? Linda
