Yes-James Ashley married Annet Caswell. She died about 1799 or 1800 in Fredericton, New Brunswick where she is buried. I believe she was visiting her brother, Joseph, who had left during the Rev War. James then married a Betsy or Rebecca ?. I suspected Roundvil. They had a least two children, Saloma and Joel H. They moved to Ohio about 1816. Geri

One of theme lists James as Dr. James Ashley. Both were for Bristol County. And since this is the Caswell list, right above that there is a marriage for a James Ashley to Anner Caswell. Again there are two listings - one is probably the date of the intent. One is for Middleborugh, Plymouth County with a date of 24-Jan-1767, the other is for Taunton, Bristol County on 17-Feb-1767. Is the earlier James Ashley any relation to yours? Happy hunting, Donna in RI

I ran into a great book on the Caswell's at the library in SLC. It was a two volume set and very new. It not only listed people but where the information was obtained. It might be on microfilm. Geri

I have done some more digging in my attempts to find the ancestors of Seth Caswell of Barnard, Vermont. I think that he was the son of Thomas Caswell and Susanna ?? (perhaps Wing), and that he was born 22 March 1809 in Grafton, NH. I also think that Thomas and Susanna were married in Carver, Plymouth County, MA on 2 Nov 1793. They resided in Grafton, NH in the 1810 census, then moved to Windsor County, VT sometime before 1820, living in the Barnard and Stockbridge areas until they disappear. I believe that Seth married 1st Tina Roundy and 2nd Luthera Emerson, my ggggrandmother. Seth lived in Stockbridge and Barnard from 1830 thru 1880. Do any of these people ring a bell with anyone out there? I would like to verify whether I am correct, and, if I am, the ancestry of Thomas and Susanna. Come on Caswells, you can do it. Thanks in advance. Steve Parker Huntsville, AL [email protected]
Annett married James Ashley on 2-17-1767 in Middlebrough. She died in Canada. I am interested in when she died. I am guessing that she went to New Brunswick to visit a relative - a brother ? Joseph. I have one record that states she died 1799 and another one that states she was alive in 1800. Geri

I have been doing some research on the Caswell family in that area of Vermont and New Hampshire and some of them went to Stanstead, PQ at that time and then settled in the Chelsea, VT area later. The Barbour Collection was done by a man named Barbour who extracted the CT vital records for each town. I don't know the he did any other states. The volumes go by town, and then alphabetically list by surname, the births, deaths and marriages. You could check with whoever holds the vital records in your area if there something similar for your area. I know that things are handled differently almost everywhere else, than by the way we do it in New England! I really appreciate what you're doing with the Barbour Collection. My particular interest would be in Levi Caswell, b. 1778 in CT (city not known). On Nov. 17, 1799 he married Asenath Hubbard (b. 1780 in CT) in East Hampton, Middlesex County, CT. Levi is my great great grandfather, and I've been unable to make any progress on his line for the past 35 years or so. I don't know whether East Hampton still exists under that name, but I hope you'll find in in the Barbour Collection and perhaps discover something about Levi. Thanks again for your efforts. Thomas H. Caswell III (aka Tom) -----Original Message----- From: Nancy Simpson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 18, 2000 7:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [CASWELL list] CT Caswell's The Barbour Collection was done by a man named Barbour who extracted the CT vital records for each town. Can anyone make a connection here, please? ----- Original Message ----- From: jen.morgan To: Mike Caswell Sent: Thursday, May 18, 2000 1:35 AM Subject: Re: caswell's in New Zealand I spoke to my Dad and have discovered the following. My great grandfather war Percy Caswell. He was born and lived all his life in Keithly in Yorkshire. He had 3 sons - Edward, Ernest and Howard. My grandfather was Edward. My father was not close to his family so he does not know if Ernest or Howard had children but presumed they did. Edward Caswell lived in Keithly until he married my grandmother. They then emigrated to New Zealand. They also had 3 sons, identical twins Ian (my Dad) and David and Howard. David has two sons (Richard & Timothy and one daughter (Cathyrn) Howard had one son (Mark) and two daughters (Sally & Caroline) Ian had two children, one son (Philip) and one daughter (me) I would love to kow any connections you could make regarding our family. There are only about three other Caswell families in New Zealand apart from ours so we are pretty rare down this part of the world.
