    1. [CASWELL list] Ruth Ann Caswell
    2. Heather Davis
    3. Hi Caswells and List, I have just recently joined your list and would like to post my first question. I have only information passed down through the family, no solid records yet. Ruth Ann Caswell (1846-1900) married Chester Leander Seeley (1844-1915) Chester was mayor of Wellington, OH for a time. They had at least four children: Harriet Lena (1868-1898), Raymond Barnet (1871- ?), Pearl Ruth (1879-1950) and Grace Landon (1889-1966). Grace is my g-grandmother. She married William (Hugh) Evans. I have sent letters to two remaining Seeleys in Wellington to find descendants, but haven't received responses. Does anyone know Ruth Ann or any of her children? Thank you! 3. I have a question. I am wondering if perhaps Benjamin F. Caswell could have possibly been married before he amrried Charity Ann Jackson. If he was married previously then this could be the missing link. The reason I am wondering about this is that we have not been able to find anything about his parents. My wife had a similar situaion when looking for information about her great grandfather. Come to find out the stories that the family had thought to be true had some how gotten mixed up in events. My wife just so happened to get a lucky break and she found out information and all of the missing links. One was that her grandfather had come to America from Sweden and settled in Minnesota rather than Wisconsin in light of this I am wondering if this could be what's going on with Benjamin. Benjamin F. Caswell was in North Carolina (or it may be South...would have to check documents) before coming to Georgia. He supposedly was born in MA. I think that you are on to something but I do not know what the missing link is at this point. I am greatful that you have been trying to link your family to Benjamin F. Caswell my great great grandfather. Who knows...you may be on to something and closer to the answer than any of us know. 1. [CASWELL list] Fw: Ben F Caswell-Joanna Caswell, S C.
    2. From: To: [email protected] Subject: Benjamin F Caswell-Joanna Caswell, South Carolina, This info is from The CASWELL CD and The USGEN Web Project and other internet sites.... Hello Everybody, I am C. Caswell in Georgia, (E mail to [email protected]) ..I am not very good at this family research business, as I have spent many many hours trying to make the connection to the Benjamin F Caswell family, of Heard Co. Georgia, and, trying to figure out who his parents were....No connection yet, but I have found some info that I will share.............................. #1.. In searching the 1850 census, I cannot find Benjamin F Caswell in Heard Co. Ga. and, he is not found in any of the nearby Ga. or Ala. Counties in 1850 , but, Ifind that Benjamin F Caswell, Born 1828, is in the 1850 census info that I will detail later in this message................................................. #2.. It seems that the first records in Heard Co would be of his marrage to Charity Jackson, and she is listed with the family of her father, not with Ben F Caswell, in the 1850 census, it would seem they were married later ...................... ...................................Other Caswells were in this Area since 1725................................................. #3.. There are records of Caswells in this area since 1725 , and that was a long long time ago....This was before Oglethorpe started the first settlement on the coast of Georgia ......................... #4... Matthew Caswell was born in Heard Co Ga in 1725, and was married, in Heard Co. Ga. in 1756.. and the records show that some of his children, and his grandchildren, remained in this area. (At times Matthew was in other parts of Ga. and in N.C. ) ................................................ The Grandson of Matthew Caswell, Isham Caswell, and his family is listed in the census of 1850, in Heard Co. Ga. Isham had a son, Benjamin Sheppard Caswell, that is listed...((This is not Ben F Caswell..)) Most of the family of Isham Caswell, went to Arkansas in about 1855..(Married children did not go..) and later, some of them went to Texas..( Looks like folks went where the frontier was..) I think that the family above is connected with the parents or the grandparents of Ben F Caswell, and if this connection is ever found, I believe it will be in the S. C. or the N. C. area, before some of the Caswell families came to this area...Remember the records show that there were Caswells in Heard Co Ga since 1725. .................................................................... #5..This info is in the Census of 1850....Benjamin F Caswell and Joanna Caswell, and William W Caswell .........This info is from the Caswell C D.... To find this info,.........SEARCH THE C D ..........and check it out.............. First -Look up Benjamin F Caswell, b abt 1828, farmer, Joanna Caswell, 1850 census, Dover Piscatauquis, Me..pg280a, #69/ #69 ... Next -Look up Joanna Caswell..b abt 1801 in S C, with Benjamin F Caswell 1828, farmer and with William W Caswell 1832, farmer..,1850 Census: Dover Picatauquis Co Me P280a, #69 / #69 .. Then look up William W Caswell..., b 1832.......Same Family........ This brings up more questions than answers....Let me know what you find. I am still trying to connect my family to the family of Ben F Caswell, I hope some of this info may be of use to someone...............................I am in Coweta Co. Ga.,, Near LaGrange, and near Heard Co Ga... Thank you, [email protected] ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 1. [CASWELL list] Caswalls of Leominster, 17th century
    2. R. Battle
    3. Hello All, I just started working on the Caswalls of Leominster, Heref., looking in particular for the identity of the Margaret (given as "Mary" in the Leominster BTs) Caswall who married Coningsby Spencer 7 May 1674 in Leominster. The only Caswall family in the right time period in which I have been able to find a Margaret is that of Henry and Alice Caswall of Leominster (Henry, a shoemaker, had a will written 19 Nov 1668 and probated 5 Feb 1669/70; PC Hereford 226:119 [FHL #91589]). Coningsby Spencer himself was a shoemaker, but I have not found anything specifically identifying the two Margaret Caswalls. My research on this family is in connection with an article I am working on dealing with the English ancestry of William Spencer, an immigrant to GA in 1742. I have transcribed a number of Caswall wills (all from the Leominster area) in the course of research; I would be happy to post them to the list if people are interested. Thanks, Robert Battle

    1. [CASWELL list] Joshua CASWELL m. 1775 Alice REYNOLDS
    2. According to the Middleborough (Massachusetts) Vital Records [Volume II, Book II, Part 2, p. 81] under Marriages 1768-1779, Joshua CASWELL (son of Jotham and Mary (REYNOLDS) CASWELL) m. Nov. 19, 1775 Elie REYNOLDS. Modern genealogies call her "Alice." Who were the parents of Elie/Alice REYNOLDS, of Middleborough? Frequently cited is the DAR membership application of Phyllis Ruth Morris (Mrs. Charles L. Jamison) which, apparently, indicates she was the daughter of Electious REYNOLDS Jr. and Charity CASWELL. No other source documentation is provided and no other proof is offered. George Freeman Sanborn Jr., "Thomas Caswell of Taunton and His Descendants," THE MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, Vol. 37 No. 1 p. 18, citing Town (Middleborough) Meeting Records, lists eight children of Electious and Charity (CASWELL) Reynolds -- Jemima, Charity, Electious, Ezekiel, Judith, Enos, Joshua and Sarah -- none of which is Alice or Elie. Sanborn's article is considered very credible. Can anyone offer additional proof and/or documentation of Elie/Alices's parents? Interestingly, there is an entry in the Middleborough Vital Records (p. 87 of the above referenced material) under Marriage Intentions which indicates that on July 2, 1775, the Marriage Intention of "Joshua Caswell Juner and Mrs. Elce Reynolds" was filed. Might these have been the same two individuals -- Joshua Caswell and Elie Reynolds -- married on Nov. 19, 1775? If so, note the reference to "Mrs. Elce Reynolds" which suggests Elce (?Elie/Alice?) was the widow of ??? Reynolds of Middleborough. (I have done no research to determine if there was during this period (c. 1755-1775) a Reynolds marriage to a Elce (?Elie/Alice), last name unknown. If "Joshua Caswell Juner and Mrs. Elce Reynolds" were NOT the same individuals, who was this "Joshua Caswell Juner?" All thoughts and opinions are welcome! --- Scott Foster

    3. Well, my great grandfather, John J. Caswell, was the 5th brother in my clan emigrating to Canada from Armagh, Ireland. He was born aboard ship in 1847 or 1848 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. He did bring along his parents and his 2 sisters, too. After a while, 2 more sisters and 5 more brothers were born. 3. Dear Dave, The Caswell Surname Organization sent me (back in 1991) this: John Caswell, Sr. appears to have had at least 3 sons and 2 daughters in the Hardin/Hart Counties area: Thomas, William, John Jr, Catherine and Elizabeth. Thomas, born about 1786, married "Milly"/Amelia Watkins on 8/28/1808. William, born about 1790, married Elizabeth Watkins on 8/16/1810. John Jr, (who is my ancestor) born about 1792, married Elizabeth Thomas on 8/8/1811. Catherine married either James McAllister on 4/22/1806 or William Irons on 7/28/1806. Elizabeth married Thomas Wells on 7/24/1806. The Hart County Tax List of 1819 lists a John Caswell with 688 acres. The Lincoln County Tax List of 1789 lists a John Caswell with 3 "horses, colts and mules". A John Caswell appears in the 1819, 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 KY censuses for Hart county. The last appearance is for 1850 where his wife Elizabeth, children Nancy, Mary A., Allice F., Francis M (my ancestor), Lucenda J., and James are also listed. On the 1860 census Elizabeth is listed with the household of Francis who was married by then. When John died or where he is buried is a mystery. If anyone has this information please share it with me. Francis joined the Union Army and marched away to the Civil War leaving a wife and two little boys he would never see again. He died soon after the Battle of Nashville and is buried in the National Cemetery there. His youngest son (my Grandfather) was only 2 when he died, so did not remember him at all. After the war, his wife, Nancy Smith Caswell, joined her parents and a couple of siblings and migrated to Nebraska to claim land under the Homestead Act. My father, who is now 97, remembers hearing as a boy about 5 brothers who came over from Ireland. He thought one of them was Francis, his grandfather. When I found that Francis had been born in Kentucky he said, "Well I was pretty little when I heard that, so I really didn't understand who they were talking about." So has anyone ever heard of the 5 brothers wh o came over from Ireland? Any information will be appreciated. July 1892, MA Irving was my grandfather. Sister Laura was said to have "disappeared," in her 20s, but a fellow researcher said she moved to North Carolina. No other information on brothers or sisters or their descendants. Mother Mary may have died in latter 1890s. Herbert married again to an "Amelia" in 1899. Herbert's parents were William H. Caswell and Sarah Macomber. No information on Sarah. William's parents may have been Elijah Caswell and Eunice Hall. No conclusive information on Elijah, but he may have been born in 1805. There were MANY Elijahs in that area. Any information is appreciated. Thanks! Judy

    2. Wish I could help but I can't. This posting really struck home with the Caswell and Tucker connection. I wrote quite a while ago about my ggggrandfather Caswell Tucker (my brick wall). I suspect that his mother might have been a Caswell. He was born in Stokes County NC, 1/5/1805. Don't know who his parents were though. Just thought I would check again to see if any Caswell people might know anything. Leslie
