    3. The information contained here, shows a CASWELL Moated building, near CARSWELL MARSH, and also near where one of the Caswell coat of Arms was found - Binfield. If you remember, my Hugh de Carswell (1284ad) probably came from this Carswell Marsh. 3. I have just received an important looking letter today, signed by Koreen K Caswell, it had an eagle on the logo and came from Washington DC. (It had be convinced for a second!) This is the same (Noreen) name used by the Hulberts/ Burkes people who are flogging 'family tree books! My father in the UK got letters from Noreen K Caswell, but she was living in Ramsbury, Wiltshire then. BUYER BEWARE! I would say that this is probably along the same format as the other books these guys flog. Basically, a word processor sticks the CASWELL name in to strategic points on the text, then prints a long list of names and addresses gleaned from the phone book (at least thats what it looks like!) It may also have a roster of names from the Civil War. But I doubt if there is anything specific in this book. (You can get this info from other sources - at less cost) I think you'll find every book for every family name is exactly the same except for the listing at back. And lets be honest, who on earth wants a listing of every Caswell in North America? 3. Several of us Australians are researching our Carswell roots from Scotland. As yet we are unconnected but would appreciate anyone out there with Scottish Carswell's to contact us with any details so we can try for a match. My particular Carswells came from Paisley, Scotland. John CARSWELL married Elizabeth BUCHANAN and had the following children: Margaret - 1818 Eliza - 1821 John - 1823 Thomas - 1825 My line is Thomas, who married twice and settled in Australia. Any info on the above or any others from Scotland would be much appreciated, Regards, Judie, from the land-down-under but now living in Maine, U.S.A. http://members.tripod.com/~jmoore2/ http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/7619/ http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/a/b/s/Judie-A-Abson/index.html Researching the names ABSON, CARSWELL, CHENEY, KEEPENCE, LEDGER, McCRACKEN, SMART, WALKER, WOODFORD from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland and MOORE from England and Massachusetts/Maine, USA.

Carnanton, Camden Park Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN2 5AE Tel-01992 539592 Fax-01892 513406 22ad September Mike Caswell 4336 Rte 31 Palmyra NY 14522 Dear Mike, A friend of ours extracted your address from the intemet re the Caswell name. Unfortunately we are not on the net so I thought I would write instead. Although Caswell does not appear to be one of our family surnames, it has been adopted as a family second name and we are most interested in trying to find out the reason as part of our investigation into our family history. Anyway, down to the facts: o In 1868 my great great granddad, Charles Jessup and his wife, Mary Jessup nee Crabb, had a son whom they called Henry Caswell Jessup. 9 In the census of 1871 they are listed as living at 16 College Street, Camberwell, Surrey (now London), England. o Sharing the accommodation was Sarah Caswell (age 59) and Clement Caswell (age 18), her son. 9 Sarah is shown as born in Stockland, Somerset about 1811/12. o Clement was born in Fiddington, Somerset about 1851/52. In the 1881 Clement is listed as born in Bridgwater, Somerset. Mary Jessup nee Crabb also was born in Somerset, England at Beercrocumb. Unfortunately that is as far as we have been able to get so far as we have hit a brick wall in trying to trace them any further back and have no- idea of the connection or the reason for Caswell becoming a family name. As the acclaimed intemet expert on Caswell's I thought you might be able to cast some light on the matter. If you can I have enclosed a one dollar bill to pay for the return postage. If not, thanks anyway for taking the time to read this letter. Best Regards Liz Walton (nee Jessup)

    2. Since you are in Conn, here is some more Conn information on Philip A and Sarah Caswell. Their last two children according to census records were born in Conn, Abel b 18 Jun 1819 and William Henry b. 1822/23. Both died in Venango Co, Penna. Son Oliver A Caswell married Hannah Clark 30 May Lebanon, Windham Co, Conn. This is the only documentation of the family that I have from Conn. Three of Oliver A Caswell's children according to census records were also born in Conn; Oliver A. jr around 1826, Fanny H around 1829 (a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, 1849), and Sarah Jane around 1831 ( also BW '1851). Their forth child Ann was born in Ohio in 1833. I believe that Oliver sr. was a shoemaker. Sorry to be so disorganized. Thanks again.
