There are a few Caswells on this list. Hope they may be of use to some of you. BTW I have the entire IGI (62 cds in my office) and when I have finished doing Wiltshire downloads, I'll do all the Caswells in the UK & USA. -----Original Message----- From: Alan Howard <owlland@gte.net> To: Mike Caswell <mike@caswellplating.com> Date: Wednesday, November 18, 1998 9:09 AM Subject: Re: >http://thor.prohosting.com/~hughw/Allsaint.txt > >link above > > > >typed out below --it came out as a link to but I did check for correctness. >Don't know what happened last time because I pasted it . Hi Kathy, Saw your note and thought I'd give a little background. I actually live outside Dallas. I grew up in CT but my Caswell family originated in Natick MA where my GGGrandfather Asa moved to in the 1840's from Rye. Most of my family is still in that area. I've been working with Greg Caswell in Austin Texas. He is a distant cousin and has a lot of great information. I had a trip planned to Rye and the Isle of Shoals planned for this past Sept but had a job emergency that I had to sort out so hopefully next year. I'm still stuck on Robert and Mary Caswell and hope that I may get lucky someday to get the family farther back than 1690. I had a note form Harry Huntoon a while back that said he had some info on a CD that we was going to look up for me but haven't heard back. Hope all is well with you and enjoy the holidays. In reply to your message: <<Hi Harry: we have records of a Solomon Caswell family in RI which might be connected. Solomon born Providence RI 1769 - died 1857 buried in Cleveland NY. He married Polly Leach 1770-1852. They lived in Oneida Co NY, and their children were: Emery- died a bachelor age 25 in the south, May - married Mr. Belknap, Louise - married Mr. Whitney, Gracia - married Mr. R. Mathews, Susan - married Mr. Ward, Horace married Lucretia Ford in 1826 (this line is continued), Charles (children -John, William, Charles, Almanson), Frank (children - Frank, Edwin, Buell).. Could your Solomon Caswell of Norton be the father of the above Solomon? Beulah>> The Solomon Caswell in Norton MA records who married Abagail Clark in 1764 is not easily located in the well-documented Norton branches of the Taunton Caswells. It is certainly possible that there is a Providence RI part of this puzzle. I am working on trying to document the family of Solomon and Abagail, who I believe left the Norton area, went somewhere and had children, then were living at Belchertown Hampshire Co MA by June 1786. As you can see below, the addition of a Solomon Caswell Jr. to this family is a possibility, although the 1769 date has a potential conflict with the birth of their son Samuel unless they were twins or my ggggf's age stated at death was in error. It is certainly easily possible that Solomon and Abagail went first to Providence RI as the way point. I'll take a look at that. Herre's what I have on my Solomon Caswell. Solomon Caswell was born c. 1734 probably in Easton, Bristol Co MA area, married Abagail Clark of Norton (Aug 9 1764) then I do not have him positively located anywhere until 1786 when an infant daughter who died when born is mentioned in birth records of the Belchertown MA Congregational church. From various other marriage and death records, I know the following about this family: (1) daughter Abagail Caswell born 1767, died Jul 2 1790 at Belchertown (2) son Samuel Caswell born 1769, married Ruth Frink, living 1790-1800 in Belchertown, moved to Springfield abt. 1800 after wife died; married again to Martha Pease (my ggggm) died 1823 there. (3) son Zepheniah Caswell b. 1773 and died at Belchertown Aug 1796, leaving wife and two children unnamed. (4) son Asa Caswell, born between 1775-1784, married Springfield 1801, lived there until after 1820, then drops from view, but he may be the Asa Caswell who was living Albany NY 1813 (city directory). (5) infant son of Solomon Caswell, born and died the same day at Belchertown Jun 1 1786 Thanks for the note on this. If I pick up any more info on this I'll pass it along.
Wish I did. I have 16 Caswells, several of whom came from somewhere in England between 1861 and 1865 when at the the fifth child was born in Pennsylvania. I keep forgetting they probably did not wander through New England, or at least, not for long. Anyone have a missing tree with a son Thomas born in 1829 and Henry born 1830 both of whom with their children emigrated to the U.S.? No mention of Henry's wife. Thomas was married to an Anna Mason, also born in England. Gwyneth

I found- Caswell, Sinthia, of John, April 18, 1750 Also Caswell, Elijah Date of death: July 4, 1874 Age: 92,1,10 Male, Wid., Farmer Place of birth: Rochester Names of Parents: Thomas & Sarah Cause: Heart Disease Interment: Fall River Informant or Undertaker: Joseph Shove Registered: Dec 22, 1874 Does anybody have any information on Thomas & Sarah Caswell having children around the 1780's in or about Rochester, Mass.? Any help would be appreciated, Bob

Hi All, The names that Bob posted looked rather familiar. I have William H, Abiatha, Charles F, Albert and Orrin in my file, but Orrin has a different middle initial. I just wanted you to know that, I'll keep trying to figure this out and see if I can't match up these two pieces of information. Nancy
Sorry, everyone, Every time i return a message, which i think is private, it goes out to the list! Little Wiltshire gremlins, aye! :-} Again, apologies. Cheers, *kathy

Bob! That was so wonderful of you to enter all of that and send it to all of us! It doesn't fit into my Isles of Shoals family (yet!), but who knows; someday i may need it. Thanks again! *Kathy Caswell Bates "Archibald" "Caswell"

Hi Kathy, How are you doing on geneology. Who is this Mark that is on the moonrakers. He is from York? I have been very slack on doing any research, but I must get going. Haven't seen your folks for a while. Bill and Eddie just got home from hunting. Didn't get anything. What else is new. Would love to hear from you. Priscilla

hi I saw your note to mike and I can quote an article from Charles Holloman noted authority on Gov. Richard Caswell of NC. "CASWELL,RICHARD (1685-24Apr 1755) colonial merchant, planter Md legislator...was a native of London. HIs fathers family was notable among the ranks of the English gentry; the lineage is traced to Henry Careswell (ff 1440) of Staffordshire, whose son,Robert Careswell became a prime officer in househole of Thomas, Lord Stanley, the first earl of Darby.Robert's son Jjohn Caswell of Wedon, shortened the surname, and this spelling was perpetuated among his descendants.Richard Slaney Caswell, father of thr Richard who emigrated to America, used the Caswell spelling in registering his lineage and his ancestral coat of arms with the royal heralds during the visitation of London in 1634." Maybe this will helpPerhaps Ricahrd Caswell and Mary Slaney had 2 sons,Thomas and Richard Slaney. Richard Slaney's wife ____Smith's people were engaged in overseas trade with the colonies.Dr. Holloman is most reliable-he he always indicates ifwhen something is unproven. From Clair Hadleyeswell became a prime officer in the household of Thomas
