Hello to all, I have a request for Christmas to the list. Three cousins and myself would like to find the names of the Parents and siblings of one LEONARD BROWN and wife SARAH KIMBROUGH who were in Caswell County, North Carolina in 1777 when it became a county taken from the original county of Orange County, North Carolina. They came to North Carolina from Orange County, Virginia. Any information on this couple will be greatly appreciated. Lowell Brown

He also said his Great Great Grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Caswell from Presquisle Maine and we have relatives or ancestors from Harrison, Maine. I would like to do more research but I don't know what I'm doing. Oh well, I can learn. I guess our family originated in the states. Thanks, Sharon

Mike what a wonderful story --- my first for the morning :-) nice way to start a computer session. :-) May Christofer James, live a long life, and know only peace and laughter in his years. May the bells ring for the Caswells for endless generations. :-) I am proud to have the name in my history smiles to you and your clan Wendy My cousin Edward William Casswell and his wife Carrie Ann had their 1st son on the 15th of November 1998. Christofer James Casswell weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 3oz. They live at Rocky Point, New York, USA.
I have THE GREATEST PLEASURE in making the following announcement. My cousin Edward William Casswell and his wife Carrie Ann had their 1st son on the 15th of November 1998. Christofer James Casswell weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 3oz. They live at Rocky Point, New York, USA. I'm especially delighted with his name, because my father's, mine and my son's 2nd names are all James. The Trowbridge church of St James also has a very special relationship with this family. You will all probably remember hearing the bells play on moonrakers. 6 of these church bells are inscribed with Christofer's 6th gt grandfather's name - Richard Casswell. It is Richard's tomb in St James yard that we all clubbed together to restore 2 years ago. When I first went to Oregon to meet this branch of the family, they told me of a family legend that 'every time a Casswell son was born, the bells would ring in England'. The tale was passed down the generations, no one really sure if it were true. Earlier this year, Robin Holley found the following article for me in an old copy of The Wiltshire Times:- 10 jan 1858 At Bratton cottage, St. Eleanor's, Prince Edward Island, British North America. The wife of Albert Casswell esq. late of Trowbridge, a son and heir, on Wednesday last, a merry peal of bells was rung in his native town to announce the event. So, the legend was true! BUT!!!!!!!!!! There is MORE to come! I have made contact with Veronica Newman of Trowbridge, tel 1225 351217 (acting Bell Captain - Brian Coward is in hospital) and she has talked to the vicar and obtained his agreement for the following:- On 13 December 1998 at 5.15pm (British Time), just before the service of Peace & Light, the St James Church Bell Ringers are going to ring the bells once more for the birth of a Casswell in the New World!!! Now thats what I call 'family history'! Hopefully, they are going to try to make a recording of the bells, and I'll place it on the Moonrakers family history webpage for you in due course. I have forwarded a copy of this to The Wiltshire Times & Western Daily Press, who hopefully, will consider it newsworthy. While most of us detest being annoyed by SPAM, it has become an unfortunate way of life on the Internet. We have to weight the benefits against the inconveinces. Rootsweb tries very hard to limit the amount receive, and our listowners also try very hard to keep the quality in check. These people deserve our highest respect for their time and effort. Yes, closing the lists has become the topic of many lists. I agree that it is good idea. If a person is truly interested, it is easy to subscribe and to leave the list. However, some criticize that it may limit the input of information from people who are not interested in joining the list on a regular basis. Ultimately the decision must be made by the person that owns the list. We can give our respectful input and reasoning to the owner, but remember to be polite because these people really do deserve a lot of respect. If the listowner wishes, maybe we could hold a vote. Posting the vote to the owner's email address and not the list. If we have the vote on the list it could cause an increase in volume on the Rootsweb server and clog the archives with information that isn't that important for the future. Thanks for listening. By the way, I am searching for information about Martin CASWELL. He was married to Cynthia CHAPMAN. They had a child named Effie CASWELL. Martin was born in about 1841 in Wick, St. Lawrence County, NY. Cynthia was the daughter of Silas CHAPMAN and Anna Mitchell. She was born in October 1839 in Wick, St. Lawrence County, NY. Effie CASWELL married W. John MCCLURE. Hence she ends up being related to both of my husband's direct lines. Effie was born 2 November 1861 in Dickenson, Franklin County, NY. She was married in 1883. She died in 1947, and is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Dickenson Center, Franklin County, NY. W. John MCCLURE was the son of Lucius MCCLURE and Elizabeth Furnia. He died 1 June 1952 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Dickenson Center, Franklin County, NY. Effie and W. John had a son Guy MCCLURE. Guy married Sarah DYKE. Guy and Sarah are also buried in Dickenson Center at Fairview Cemetery with his parents. Have considerable information about the MCCLURE and CHAPMAN families, and would be willing to share. Need a bit more information about the CASWELL family. Thanks, Lisa avalon@northweb.com
