Hello again! Okay, my mistake, I have sources on the 2 lines I posted for Charity Caswell, I must agree with Dianna though. The sources telling me that Charity is the daughter of Ebenezer & (unkown at this point) comes from the Mayflower descendant. If I am not mistaken (like the DAR) there has to be rock solid proof to show up in the books of the Mayflower descendant. The source I have for her being the daughter of Job & Elizabeth Caswell came from different sources, the IGI, and the Taunton vital records books. The Taunton book says she was born in Middleboro. I also have a Charity Caswell b. abt 1747 who married John Staples and was the daughter of Ebenezer and right up the same line, however, they were married in 1767, 3 years before this Charity was born. I believe this was probably an older cousin of hers who prob. married an uncle or cousin of Ebenezers??? Does anyone else have any information on this? Don't forget to include me in your hunt for the Kerswells. Priscilla Caswell
I have downloaded the Kerswells from the IGI. There are lots of them, going well back into the 1500s. THIS MIGHT be what we have been looking for - the origins of the Taunton Ma Caswells. I've sent Mark a copy of the gedcom. If anyone else wants it, please let me know. -----Original Message----- From: Caswell, Mark <mark.caswell@lmco.com> To: CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com <CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, January 06, 1999 9:04 AM Subject: RE: [CASWELL-L] Taunton Caswell's > > > Hi Nancy, > > Happy New Year. The Kerswell name is fairly common in the county of Devonshire UK. There is a town called KingsKerswell too. (Bin there - dun that!) I'll look on the IGI for Kerswell. -----Original Message----- From: Caswell, Mark <mark.caswell@lmco.com> To: CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com <CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, January 06, 1999 9:04 AM Subject: RE: [CASWELL-L] Taunton Caswell's > > > Hi Nancy, > > Happy New Year. Hi Nancy, Happy New Year. I am also going to try to get more work done on my Caswell Line. I have been researching the Gosport/Rye, NH Caswell line for a while and have been stuck on Robert Caswell (Kerswell) for some time. He was born around 1690? and married Mary ______ in 1710. He is the first Caswell I have record of in NH. A number of people I have heard from think that he may have come up to NH from Taunton. Do you have anyone in your research that matches this info. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Mark Holbrook Caswell
thanks, Mike. Mark and I seem to be the only ones on this list to have a common interest in the Gosport, NH (Isles of Shoals) line and I've not been able to go back beyond 1730's. (Mark, I'll send you a copy of a written page in the Marriages book of Gosport for your information.) My family and I will go to the UK in the summer of '00 on the ongoing search for my Archibald family in Scotland/Northern Ireland. I'd love to know if the Devonshire Kerswells are our family before I go. I appreciate all your help! Cheers, *kathy >The Kerswell name is fairly common in the county of Devonshire UK. >
Nothing is easy - is it? One of my book files is 12.5mb zipped and its in Lotus Word Pro (How RH Got his name) So, I'm not quite sure how to deal with it, yet. I think it would take a week to transmit it as an email attachment. Please bear with me while i ponder the problem! I have decided to start a new type of 'Book Shop'. I have several 'books' that are stored as MS Word files and usually when someone asks for a copy, I simply print them out and post them. But now, I am going to simply send my customers the file, for a greatly reduced fee, and they can either print it out themselves, or simply read it on their computer. This saves lots of time, paper and postage Here are 2 books which are of interest to CASWELL researchers. Our Caswell Relatives - by Shirley Mayse - I have the copyright permission on this book. This is a valuable reference book to anyone researching Caswells in Canada and Ireland. about 375 pages of pure research. Your cost $3.00 How Richard Henry Gunstone Gibbs Slade CASSWELL Got His Name - by yours truly. Research of the Caswell line of Wiltshire UK, probably the ORIGINAL Caswell line. Information stretches back to 1285ad. about 120 pages, with many photos. Your cost $3.00 All you have to do is either send me a check for $3 - or email me a credit card number (do this by splitting the number in 2 seperate emails) and I'll email you the file by return. If YOU have a book you'd like to see 'published' in this manner, please let me know! Hope you like the idea! Many of you already know of a tradition of 'Ringing The Bells' The Casswells of Trowbridge, Wiltshire have had the local church bells rung for a new born Casswell in the NEW WORLD since the 1850s. I managed to persuade the bellringers of St James church in Trowbridge Wilts to ring to bells (after 150 years) for a new born Casswell in New York, USA. Can you imagine, just for one minute, that every time a descendant of an English family was born in the New World, the bells of the local church were rung in England! We, the people on the Internet, can arrange these things! The World gets smaller! I hope to place the 'bell ringing' wav file for Christofer James Casswell on the moonrakers page in the near future. Nancy, I saw the information on the geocities web site. Is there other names available as I am looking for the family of John Caswell and Elizabeth Hall of Taunton who left and went to NewYork, probably Herkimer Co. I don't know anything of their children except my line, David born 30 Jan 1744. I then descend through his son Warren born in 1774; his son Edwin born 3 Dec 1815; his son Edwin born 27 Jul 1866; his son Edwin (my dad) born 8 Sept 1897 in Portland, Oregon. Any information or clue would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bob Caswell email: bcaswell@willapabay.org Nancy wrote: > Hi everyone I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! Here is some exciting news. At last a possible link with the Irish Caswells of Blackwater, and the Wiltshire ones.
