    2. In a message dated 99-01-12 15:03:13 EST, you write: > Electa died on > 14 May 1890 in Avilla, Jasper Co., MO and is buried there. At this > point, I'm afraid her history is buried there also. > > Cheryl > timetraveler@apex2000.net Cheryl, I live in MO and am also a Caswell descendant. Do you know the name of the cemetery Electa is buried at? I will be going to Jasper Co, MO near the end of Feb. If you like I can do a little scouting for you. Still trying to find where my Clarence Caswell is buried. He lived in Newton Co, MO, which is just south of Jasper. The Bigham Funeral records in Neosho, MO, state that he died in Neosho and was buried in Buckner, Jackson Co., MO (over 200 miles north of Neosho), but I have yet to find him there. Let me know. 3. I, too, have Caswells in NY in the late1700s/early 1800s - but I'm not sure where! I have hit the veritable "brick wall" after several years of searching. Here's the short version of the story: My gg-grandmother, Electa Jane Caswell was born 11 Mar 1821, somewhere in NY state. She married Justus Hall, Jr. in La Grange Co., IN on 8 Apr 1838. I do not know for sure who her father was, but I suspect it was a Joseph Caswell who was bought land, and settled in La Grange Co. in the mid-1830s. Electa and Justus Jr. moved to Bureau Co., IL before the 1840 census. There is a Joseph Caswell also listed on that census, who is between the age of 40-50. In addition, he is listed as an early settler of Bureau Co., and was elected Justice of the Peace during the 1840s. After 1846, he drops from the record. I have searched the NY 1820 census records, and found only one Joseph Caswell household with a male the right age to be the above mentioned Joseph Caswell. It is in Jersey Twp., Steuben Co., NY. There is another Joseph Caswell household in Exeter Twp., Otsego Co. Of course, if Joseph IS Electa's father, he and his wife might still have been living with his parents or his wife's parents when Electa was born in 1820. But I do not know Joseph's father's name. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Cheryl F. Luginbill timetraveler@apex2000.net

    1. [CASWELL-L] Ebenezer and Charity
    2. Fisher
    3. This info is definitely correct: I have the marriage, and birth certs for Charity and Ebenezer (along with all of their children) Unforunately there is no maiden name listed for Elizabeth on Charity's birth certificate. Also, the date on her gravestone match the ones on the certificate which lists her parents as Job and Elizabeth. Too bad Job and Elizabeth weren't buried right there as Noah and Rachel are buried on the other side of Ebenezer along with most of thier children and the children's spouses.
