Looking for John and Elizabeth Hall Caswell of Taunton who may have moved to Albany, New York about 1735. If not them, their son, Leuit. John Caswell and his wife Hannah Hoar. We have information that John Caswell died in Albany. The family eventually located in Herkimer Co., Ontario for several more generations. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marilyn Caswell

I think Steve Caswell (sfc@tpghq.com) has all of this info. I haven't been in contact with him for a couple of years, though. Hope he's still at that e-mail address. He actually wrote a nice manuscript on Benjamin's family through now! Good one, too! Everything come to he who waits (& posts to the moonrakers listserver!) So, now we know that the elusive RICHARDSON is near Winterbourn Bassett. And that the Baskervilles were of ancient Norman descent. And they WERE in Ireland! Now this IS important folks! The Baskervilles and Caswells were in Blackwater Ireland. Where the finest little piggies were produced and shipped, THROUGH CALNE- to London. Perhaps this very BASKERVILLE was the one who lived in Blackwater, alongside Samuel Caswell? If so, it would show that these two families were major players in the Wiltshire pork trades. Many thanks to Paul Vivash a Baskerville memorial tablet in Mildenhall church. Near rest the Remains of THOMAS BASKERVILLE Esq descended from an ancient Norman lineage In very early life he devoted himself to King and Country served in Germany under the Marquis of Granby and afterwards in Ireland and the West Indies always with distinguished honour He graduated in his Promotion from the Ensign to Lieut Colonel most creditably for himself and most respected and esteemed by Others He was for many years in the 50th Regt of Infantry and finally promoted to the 62nd Born at Rickardson Winterbourn Basset in this County He died at Poulton House in this Parish 4th May 1817 Aged 85 years leaving no Issue He married first ANNE only daughter of The Rev JAMES O'NEIL of Ballyshannon County of Donnegal in the Kingdom of Ireland who died in the year 1768 and secondly JANE the youngest Daughter of THOMAS BISHOP of Kinsale Gent

Then I found corrected editions of "The Brewster Genealogy" by Emma Brewster Jones with corrections made by the author-- she crosses out Charles Caswell and writes in Daniel Caswell as Cynthia Brewster's husband, and Cynthia's headstone also states husband Daniel (have photos of the stone in the Brewster family plot in Maplewood Cemetery,Vermont). Does anyone connect to these lines? If so, I would love to hear from you. Janet

Our Caswell's : began with George Washington Caswell. He came from England and he married Savanna Elizabeth Adams. We do not know where they settled when they came to the U.S. We have asked realtives but have not had much luck. George Washington Caswell's son Homer Williams Caswell (my husbands grandfather) married Lona Jane Pirtle and they lived in the Alabama and Tennessee area. If anyone knows of this branch of Caswells please let us know as we have not gotten very far. I sent in dates before but if you all would like me to do it again, I will. Thanks! Marilyn, I do not know if my Caswells were from the Taunton, MA line or the Canada line, but I suspect they may be from the Taunton, MA clan. Another Caswell researcher, Kathy Rinke, had Caswell family move into Indiana about the same time that Joseph Caswell moved into La Grange Co., IN. In fact, they were right next door in Steuben Co., IN. We have been unable to tie the two families together, but if I remember right, Kathy's Caswell line was believed to be out of Taunton. I have found another group of Caswells in De Kalb Co., IN (which also borders La Grange and Steuben counties) but I haven't found the connection there either. I have ordered Caswell books on microfilm, (one was a Caswell encyclopedia of names), searched marriage records, obits, census records, county histories, etc., and found absolutely no information regarding Joseph or Electa Jane Caswell, other than what I sent in before. There is no probate, will or gravestone for Joseph in Bureau Co., IL. No one seems to know what happended to him. Electa died on 14 May 1890 in Avilla, Jasper Co., MO and is buried there. At this point, I'm afraid her history is buried there also. Cheryl timetraveler@apex2000.net
