Hello all, I am looking for information on my gg-grandmother Elisa (Caswell) Taylor. I know very little as of yet. She married Jewell (sp?) Caswell and gave birth to my g-grandmother Ida (Taylor) Upton (also appearing at some point, I believe, as Effie Ida Taylor) on 28 Feb 1888. Jewell Taylor was related to Taylors in Hardin Co., KY. If I am not mistaken, family members have also mentioned Taylor or Caswell connections to Nelson and/or Larue Co.'s KY. I have not been working on this line very long, but so far the going is slow. I would appreciate any pointers or clues anyone might have. My family does have a lot of information on the Upton line, but none on the Taylor or Caswell families. Thanks for your time & attention. Best wishes, Ken Rutledge.

I've finished it! Over 2000 names, from James CASWALL in Hereford, through Sir George Caswell, Knight of the Holy Wars, onto Robert Clarke Caswall and Soooooo many religious people, vicars, rectors priests, almost one in every generation! And - whats more, this line actually contacted Joseph Smith the LDS Prophet! They didn't have anything nice to say, however! http://www.moonrakers.com/caswell/gedcoms/gedcoms.htm The latest gedcom file, fresh from my hot little hands, is now available. This file, with over 2400 names, shows the ancient Caswell line (CASWALL) from Leominster, Herefordshire. So far, there is NO connection to the Taunton line. But, this family was a preaching family. Vicars, priests, rectors, etc. from generation to generation. They moved from Hereford, to Wiltshire (where one of them travelled from to see Joseph Smith in Nauvoo) see http://www.moonrakers.com/palmyra/ In to Canada, Brockville Ontario, Ohio, Vermont, and Kentucky, birthing children all the way, as you will see! If you find any connections, please let me know! It is THIS line of CaswAlls that come from Leominster, not the Taunton line. We now have evidence that the Taunton line via Richard Caswell & Mary Slaney, came from Northamptonshire, via London. So, forget Taunton, Somerset, UK. Your USA Caswells didn't come from there! Please keep sending me your gedcom files. Mike Caswell
I'm forwarding your email to the listserver, where hopefully those doing the Taunton tree will add it to their files. Cross this out of your database! Firstly, there is no such place as Leomaster, (but there is a Leominster) then the address states two counties. Hereford & somerset. This simply goes to show that the data was ALL supposition! You can keep the name Thomas, but nothing else! Sorry! To see the REAL Leominster in HEREFORDSHIRE (which is a different planet to SOMERSETSHIRE) http://uk5.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?place=Leominster%2C+Hereford+and+Worc ester&db=hcgaz&scale=1000000&local=all&width=500&height=300&X=345000&Y=25500 0&zs=&ct=b6&scn=0 -----Original Message----- From: Phyllis Hunter <pehunter@windsor.igs.net> To: mike@caswellplating.com <mike@caswellplating.com> Date: Saturday, February 20, 1999 9:35 PM Subject: Thomas Caswell 1st >Mike I just finished reading your mail re Thomas 1st. Here's hoping someone's got something on this guy! Seeking anything on Sylvanus Caswell, born 1810 somewhere in New York. In 1830 he was living alone in Hinsdale, Cattaraugus County. Married German-born Catharine Shaler. Their children included Andrew (born 1840 in NY), Ellen, Maggie, Cyrus, Edward, and George. By 1850, the brood had moved to Winnebago Co., IL. Some of the children were born in IL. By 1870, Sylvanus, his wife, and four of the younger children were living in Tama County, IA. Son Andrew ended up in southeastern SD, where he and his brothers seem to have become responsible for most of the Caswell population that remains in the area. There are also unconfirmed ties to a bunch of Colorado Caswells. Our line came out of SD, through KS to OK. Can anybody help? I've hit a solid wall with Sylvanus. Kelly Caswell
Another Taunton Ma line? I now have found a good tree for this line, going back to the 1500s in Herefordshire and this links that line to the Staffordshire one! Its all coming together folks!
