    3. Bejamin Franklin Caswell that is the anscestor of my husband and also Steve Caswell and Janie Caswell Wideman is from this line. His grandfather and great grandfather were Samuel. One of the Samuel's had a wife named Mary. Benjamin's father was named Thomas . We've had a hard time finding out much past that as Benjamin's mother died when he was young and his father remarried. Bejamin was put on a ship at the age of 12 after his step-mother threw a log at him. His father put him on a ship . It's a long story but a good one. Steve Caswell has more of our information thus far. He has word documents etc about this story. I see these Samuel's listed just like our story . Our Benjamin was born to Thomas Caswell the son of Samuel Caswell who was also the son of Samuel. Our Benjamin was born in Fall River, MA ..Bristol County which later Tauton became the county seat. I hope that I am making sense here. We have it listed as a Samuel, then another Samuel, then a Thomas then Benjamin Franklin Caswell born May 22, 1828. We do not even know who his mother is since he was put on the ship and sent away and his mother had died. Csan anyone help with this? 3. Some information for those working on the origins of Thomas Caswell. My appologies, but I don't know where I got this information, I did not look at these publications myself. The following is from "New England Families' Genealogical and Memorial" by William Cutter: Thomas Caswell who seems to have been the Thomas, son of Richard, above mentioned, was one of the first settlers in Taunton, MA., which was incorporated in 1639. He reached the colonies in about the year 1640, and tradition states that he came from Somershire, England. He had 10 children, five sons and five daughters: Stephen, Thomas, Peter, John, Samuel, Mary, Hannah, Elizabeth, Abigail, and Hester. Samuel, the fifth son had children: Samuel, Henry, Ebenezer, nathaniel, Damaris, Mehitable, Ruth, Anne, Johanna, and Rebecca. "The Mayflower Descendant" has two additional children for Thomas : William & Sarah, and says that the father of Thomas Caswell was Thomas Caswell. Information for Richard Caswell from WFT Pedigree 534: 1. Richard Caswell was born WFT Est. 1567 - 1596, and died WFT Est. 1621 - 1681. He married Mary Slany WFT Est. 1593 - 1636, daughter of Richard Slany. Notes for Richard Caswell: The following is from "New England Families' Genealogical and Memorial" by William Cutter: Richard Caswell, Esq.of London, father of Thomas Caswell born 1618, married Mary, daughter of Richard Slany, Esq. of the county of Salop, and among their children were Thomas and George, the third and fourth sons. Children of Richard Caswell, and Mary Slany are: George Caswell, b. WFT Est. 1597 - 1637; d. WFT Est. 1610 - 1716 Thomas Caswell, b. October 20, 1618, N. Curry Sommersetshire, England; d. Aft. 1697, Taunton, County of Bristol, MA. Also there is a Reference made in "The Babbit Family History" by Wm. B. Babbit, 1912, that the wife of Thomas Caswell was Mary Sanderson of Boston. I'm probably just adding confusion to this mystery, but I thought I would throw it out there.................. Kathy

    2. name: Doris Wheeler email: doriswheeler@worldnet.att.net message: Thanks to all the wonderful help of many genealogy fans out there, I have my husband's Caswells back to Hopkinton, Rhode Island in about 1800. Our Allen CASWELL was probably born there around 1775 (I believe his father was William). Allen's son, Anthony, was b. 23 Dec 1796 in Hopkinton, lived for a while in Connecticut, moved on for a brief stay in Charleston, SC, then on to Schenectady, NY where he worked on construction of the Erie Canal. He settled in Hinsdale (Ischua), Cattaraugus County, NY in 1825, married Sally LOCKWOOD in 1829, raised a large family and d. in Ischua 29 Apr 1871. I am trying to find Allen's wife and firm information about his parents and other ancestors. His wife's name was Elizabeth in his will, but I don't know if she was Anthony's mother who may have been a daughter of Roger Sherman, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Thank you for any information. Advice and counsel gladly welcomed! And, of course, I'm always glad to share. Doris

    3. I understand the spinning head syndrome. I've got it from a severe case of ancestor hunting in about 25 lines at last count! Anyway, I don't know anything about my Caswells beyond Rhode Island in about 1800, so the Isle of Shoals line is new news to me. Is that Wales? Or should I go back to Geography 101? Is there a gedcom or family tree somewhere that I might consult? Many many thanks. 3. Mark, Ira is the son of Joshua Sr. And the family was living in NY in 1831, they moved to OH around 1834 and then to IN. As Ira was born in 1814 he couldn't have come to IN before his parents. (at least not by much) There is another Ira Caswell who is a great grandson to Joshua Sr. and grandson to Ira. Kathy mark coomer wrote: > > >Are you referring to Ira Clayton Caswell?
