    3. I am delighted to inform you that I have the ENTIRE DATABASE from the CSO in my possession! 1. [CASWELL-L] New GEDCOM FILE available
    2. Mike Caswell
    3. My wife Carol, has just completed entering all the data we had on the CASSWELL family of Lincolnshire, UK. I've had this data around for years, but only in hand written, typed trees, never as a computer gedcom file. So, this is a first time for this to be available! The data comes from several members of the family, and we have crossed references the trees and added the various branches, so this is an original work. You can download the gedcom file @ www.moonrakers.com/caswell/gedcoms.gedcoms.htm Mike Caswell 4336 Route 31 Palmyra, NY 14522-9719 USA Voice - (315) 597-5140 Fax - (315) 597-1457 Business - http://www.caswellplating.com mike@caswellplating.com Genealogy - http://www.moonrakers.com mike@moonrakers.com

    2. Mike Caswell
    3. I have made a minor adjustment to the introductory page of Geneweb, so that you may ensure the server is switched on before you enter to look at files. Simply check to see if the server is operating, by clicking on status, then click on start if not. You can also just click on start anyway, it will only tell you the server is already running. There! Thats the 'bug' fixed! (I actually did something right today!) Mike Caswell

    1. [CASWELL-L] Edward Alexis CASWELL
    2. Phil Baltzer
    3. Mike, Last summer I was researching the Taunton CASWELLs at the NEHGS and on pages 20-21, of The Mayflower Descendant Vol. 37 No. 1 January 1987, I quote George Sanborn's article: "The records of birth of the children of Samuel2 Caswell do not appear on record. As his estate was apparently never probated, and his deeds only name his sons, authority for the following daughters' names rests with Edward Alexis Caswell, "Genealogy of the Samuel Caswell branch of the descendants of Thomas Caswell,: a typescript, completed in 1901, and deposited at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston. The compiler was a great-great-great-grandson of Samuel2 Caswell, and may have had access to family records. Later, writers seem to have copied his list of children of Samuel2 Caswell without question." I then practically turned the NEHGS upside down looking in vain for these deposited records. I then wrote subsequently to George Sanborn to inquire further about these records, but my letter was never answered. I noted that there was a George Sanborn listed with a e-mail address for workers doing Taunton Caswell research. If indeed he is the same person who's research is quoted above, maybe he will be kind enough to respond now, so that we all can benefit from those illusive documents. Hopefully, Phil Baltzer

    3. I have been working on the Taunton Database, trying to connect the Caswell's to the immigrant Thomas. When I first started doing genealogy (almost 20 years ago) I didn't understand the importance of documentation. I can assure you all though, that I do now!!! My husband and I purchased a digital camera a few months ago and we've been experimenting with taking pictures from documents at our local library. It seems to work very well. I plan on taking the camera with me on future research trips. I'm just dying to get back to health and head over to Taunton and the town hall and the historical society again! I am again putting out the word...keep sending me your lines, and try to include your sources when you have them. Mike's cd is also going to be a fantastic help to all of us. I am hoping that someday (in our lifetime) we can get these lines figured out!! 3. I'm sure Mr Sanborn won't mind! The object here is to get to the truth, not stroke someone's ego! Genealogists make mistakes! The work is a continuing correction of old data, using the information from new finds! Most gene programs have notes sections where sources of information can be placed. I would suggest that if you do happen to see a physical entry and are able to photocopy/scan it, then please do so and forward it to me. I'll place it on the CD, so everyone can see it. -----Original Message----- From: HHuntoon@aol.com <HHuntoon@aol.com> To: CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com <CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Cc: mike@caswellplating.com <mike@caswellplating.com> Date: Friday, March 05, 1999 2:51 PM Subject: Re: [CASWELL-L] Thomas Caswel & Mary Sanderson TAUNTON ma. >I wasn't meaning to give a hard time to Mr. Sanborn particularly. 2. Nancy
    3. I would have to agree whole-heartedly that Thomas had 12 children. They are recorded at the Taunton Town Hall. I found them myself this past summer and have their birthdates from these records. They are all listed as children of Thomas, though no mother's name was there. I did not have the opportunity to look up a marriage record for them. I am going to call or write to them this week to see if I can get a marriage record for him. I am just concerned that if a new Taunton database is built, that the document footnotes be included or a confidence-level note assigned by the person who did the work so that the folks who come after us current Caswell-hunters can more easily assess the degree of confidence in the database.

    3. Yes, I think you have hit the nail on the head here! George Sanborn's work, by his own admission, is NOT reliable in the early parts of it, especially with any references to the UK. Many of the Taunton researchers have plucked data from this source and the Ancestral File and IGI. Both of these are MOST unreliable!!!!!!!!!!!!! What we need to do here is collectively get PROOF! I want to see copies of actual documents! Lets get them, one by one, to physically PROVE our case. I propose we start with Thomas Caswell & Mary Sanderson and their children, and work SOLELY on that line for a few days. -----Original Message----- From: HHuntoon@aol.com <HHuntoon@aol.com> To: CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com <CASWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, March 05, 1999 7:59 AM Subject: Re: [CASWELL-L] Thomas Caswel & Mary Sanderson TAUNTON ma. >Re Thomas Caswell having 12 kids, that follows from the old Sanborn articles, >doesn't it?
