    3. Hi Sandy, Have tried to find the ship and date my granfather and his brother arrived in New York. His name Niels Jensen Mayland. He and his brother Lorentz (Lawrence) came in the fall or winter of 1898 They were from Denmark. No records at Ellis Island and other places that I have searched. There was a fire at Ellis Island and it was closed until 1900. Have tried different spelling of the name Mayland, Meyland and Mailand. There was a record at Ellis Island of my grandfather Niels Jensen Mayland going to Denmark and returning to the USA in the early 1900's. He was a citizen of USA then. He went to Denmark to visit his family. When he came to USA in 1898 his destination was Cedar Falls, Iowa. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Don Mayland Miller, HUTCHINSON, KANSAS. Researching MAYLAND, CAPION AND JORGENSEN.

    3. Don, I think you'll find that all records of arriving immigrants during the 'fire' years were transferred to Ellis Island after it reopened and 'are' on the EIDB. Of course, some records are missing from the entire EIDB database and your people might be among the missing, as are mine.
