Hi Elaine, The information I sent you is all that you need to order a copy of the ship manifests (passenger lists). Since you are asking about two separate ships, you will need to order two forms to fill out. Castle Garden was being used during the time that the two people you are interested in arrived. When you fill out the port of arrival on the form, put "New York, NY (Castle Garden)". That worked for me. Use the link below to go to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) page for ordering forms. You will want to order NATF Form 81. The site is very user-friendly. You just email your request and fill out the form when it arrives (with the info I gave you). What you usually get back is a copy of the first page of the ship manifest and whatever page the person you want is listed on. If you want the "entire" ship manifest, you must state so, but it could get spendy. Charges are by the page. The ships are entered alphabetically. (There is no info on the Herder as yet). http://www.cimorelli.com/safe/shipmenu.htm Best wishes and much luck on your quest. I am helping an elderly gentleman who has been researching Fredrick Hueter and Diana Baker of Nansemond County VA without success for many years. The county records were destroyed and death certificates had no information about their origins. Marriage record AND death certificate do not show any of these answers although his death was reported by his own son!!! I believe that Mr. Hueter came to this country and managed to not offer any information relative to his arrival. I do not know how he arrived here nor WHERE HE LANDED. Census records suggest that he arrived in 1873 and I know that he married Diana Baker in 1886. Do you know where the passenger list records of the Schiedam and Herder can be found? Perhaps they will offer some clue.
