As far as I know, Georg was traveling alone. There were no other Sagmeister's listed. Other people were traveling on the ship, of course, but there is no way I would be able to determine if he was acquainted with any of his fellow passengers. I don't know what the meaning of the name is. Perhaps some other lister is more versed in surname meanings.
