Hello listers, When requesting a lookup, please don't reuse someone else's subject line. It's very difficult to keep responses to your queries straight when there are half-a-dozen with the exact same surname. I almost deleted a couple because I thought they were duplicate mailings that I had already responded to. You might also be bypassing the person who could break thru your brick wall. Thanks for the assist. Sandra in Oregon

Hi Sanda, Could you please look up a Schumacher family for me, please? My great-great-great-grandfather was Ludwig Schumacher, and according to the family Bible, he wrote that they immigrated to the U.S. in 1880, and he also wrote "arrived in Chicago on June 24, 1880." He would have come with his wife, Auguste/Augusta, and I don't know if ALL of their kids came at once, with them, but if they did, they were: Anna (b. Dec. 1864), Minna (b. Nov. 1867), Carl/Charles H. (b. Oct. 1871), Wilhelm/William F. (b.Apr. 1874), Albert B. (b. May 1876), and Richart/Richard J. (Sept. 1877). Also, Ludwig's brother, Wilhelm/William may have come with them, as he too arrived in 1880. To give you an idea of ages, Ludwig was born May 15, 1843, and his brother Wilhelm/William was born May 14, 1846. I don't know what all your disk lists, but Ludwig was a carpenter and Wilhelm/William was a shoe maker. Thank you! :-) Kelly in Michigan

I just wonder if it might be worthwhile to also check at the county where he was naturalized. I got one of my husband's ancestor's naturalization records (1906) from the Cambria Co., PA courthouse and was truly amazed at all the details they had between his Declaration of Intent, his Petition for Naturalization and even a marriage record. Family had been trying unsuccessfully to get anything from NARA or the National Archives. It didn't cost me anything, either. Hi Diane, Yes,I have the hard copies.I emailed nara with the little info of birth place and yr and they had sent me a few index cards of various John Moodys.I picked the closest match and they sent me the documents. This was the right man because his witness was Michael Ryan who was his brother-in-law.Unfortunately it is 2 yrs before 1907 when the rest of info was added. It doesn't even mention coming from Canada, all it has is that he is a citizen of England. For the few times I have been able to get to a FHC or library,I would copy as much info as humanly possible in a couple hours and then send for certs etc.with what I was able to reap at that visit. Right now I am trying to collect as much info as I can,so when school lets out,I will be able to order films thru inter library loan, and my daughter will go to the libraries story room. Molly, You mention the info on his naturalization papers but you also state you're pretty much just using online sources. Have you obtained hard copies of his naturalization papers(and from where), or have you just viewed online info? Anyone have a CD on the Irish Immigrants covering Potato famine years to castle Garden? Or know a web site that list passengers from that period Ireland to Canada.
Sandy When you receive the results of a request for a lookup you usually find one of the following situations: (1) A perfect match, (2) a strike out or (3) a match with additional information. Happily you hit number three and now the RIEDERS are trying to find what happened to three additional members of the arrival party in 1881. Thanks again for you assistance, you surely know you have helped many people on this list. Regards from Sarasota, Al Briggs
Sandra, You are wonderful!!! I am researching CARL JUNG and MARGARETHA KOEPPEL/KEPPEL who came to US thru Castle Gardens most likely during 1853 and 1854 timeframe. Their first child was born NYCity June 03, 1855. There has been no indication in the NYCity Vital Rec. - Marriages - that they were married here in States, so it might be assumed they were married before they left Germany which is in accord with the 1853-1854 time period of arrival. Thank you so much for your kindness. Best wishes.
