Hello all, I'm new to this list and have identified that some of my relatives arrived circa 1883 in New York City. Family lore is that they can via Ellis Island but as I've done research this is obviuosly untrue. I expect they would have come through Castle Garden instead. Can so one tell me what kind of inforamtion might be available in relation to those coming via Castle Gardens. I already had my ggarndfathers naturalization documents and although they should have told me when and where he entered the country records at that time were not well kept. As a result no information in respect to the date, ship or other information. Any input as to what I could espect to find from records that might have been kept there would be helpful Eric Wickberg Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Hello List members! I am looking for information on Wilhelm E. F. Heller and his brother, Frederick Michael Heller. If anyone has the German to America book, could you please assist in looking up information on these two brothers. According to handed down stories, Wilhelm E.F. Heller and family (wife: Maria Elisabeth Daberkow Heller and son: Gustav Adolph Heller) plus his brother, Frederick Michael Heller and family (wife:Friedaricka Henrietta Heller Heller) came to America in 1851. The month and day, I have never know. Assistance in locating the full date these brothers and their families entered America is greatly appreciated. Regards, Marcha
I am looking for a Helen Dobson and her son George Dobson that came over from England in 1888. Helen was a widow, age abt 41 and George was 12 yrs old. They were living in Yeovil,Somerset, England. I don't know what town they departed from Thanks Robin
I am requesting a search of passenger records from the NARA. I need to know the approximate date of arrival. I know that the ship left Queenstown on April 11, 1883. Would three to four weeks seem to be an average trip? I have heard of voyages as long as three months and as short as two weeks. I have to guess at this so need some input. Carol

I checked all 3 of my CDs and found no Alnwick listings. Do you have access to Ancestry.com? I pulled the following from their paid subscription database. Thanks Sandra for the look up of Bean, Dinning and Louttit. It is much appreciated.
My 2nd GrGrandfather James Keats b.August 23, 1819 Wiltshire, England U.K. Arrived in U.S. July 1848 and was Naturalized June 9, 1860 Trumbull Co, OH - This taken from his Naturalization papers. I cannot find any Declaration of Intent. It seems that he would have arrived thru the wharfs of Manhattan if immigrant arrivals Before August 1855 came thru wharfs of Manhattan. Any info on ships arriving in U.S. July 1848 or passenger list with his name ? He would have been 29 or 30. Did anyone come with him ? I would like to be able to trace his family and Ancestors back to Wiltshire. Thanks for any help. Bob Wallace in IL
I checked my CD's for your BACH and came up blank. I also checked Ancestry.com, where I had one hit: Found in Biography & Genealogy Master Index (BGMI) from Ancestry.com. 48623 Bach, Johann Egidius 1645-1716 Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians. Sixth edition. Revised by Nicolas Slonimsky. New York: Schirmer Books; London: Collier Macmillan Publishers, 1978. (BakBD 78) If you check the message boards at Ancestry.com, there are 4 messages posted by 3 individuals. Perhaps that will help further your search. Wish I could have been of more help. I have been reading the questions and answers on this list for awhile . I know that there are some very knowledgeable people out there.I hope that somone can give me a direction to go in. A cousin and I have been trying to find the ship that they arrived on or the town that our ancestors are from. The cousin and Ihave met online and even together we have run into brick walls. We know that our Bose relatives came around 1888 and 1890 and that they came from Germany by steerage. They ended up in SAn Jose California but some documents state that they they stayed in another place before coming to San Jose. We have checked Census records and other sources but have been unable to locate any information how where and when they arrived. They were supposed to have come from a town by the name of Buttle. Any ideas on how to begin looking for them? Thanks Cindy __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. As well you can search this site using their search engines: http://www.searchforancestors.com/records/passenger.html There are several free Passenger list search engines including Ellis Island, RootsWeb and and an exclusive Irish passenger list portal. This site also has Tips for searching the Ellis Island database at http://www.searchforancestors.com/archives/vol11.html My Olive Tree Genealogy Search engines have been custom built for the following states: Maryland, Texas, Louisiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New England (includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North & South Carolina, Rhode Island & Vermont) and Texas. The total number of ships to USA you can search from my new search boxes as of today is 4,190. New ships are being added daily so don't despair if you don't find an ancestor the first time. http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_ships.shtml Scroll down the page (2 - 3 screens down) until you see the yellow search boxes labelled with each state name. You will also see, just above the search boxes in a darker yellow box, a direct link to search all of Rootsweb.com's passenger ship lists. The states which are searchable there include NY, Virginia, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Maryland. You can still search manually, ship by ship, on my Olive Tree Genealogy pages by going to http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousa_index.shtml Ships which you are can search manually are arranged by year, and by state of arrival for your convenience. Ships housed on Olive Tree have my Tree Logo button beside them; links to other ships are clearly indicated with an "Off-Site" button. One of the little known online databases for USA ships is found at the NAC (National Archives of Canada) for immigration 1925- 1935. Immigration records, including some border crossings are searchable for the ports of Providence, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; and New York City, New York.
