    1. [CASTLE-GARDEN] Re: CASTLE-GARDEN-D Digest V02 #82
    2. Sandra Kieffer
    3. Hi Elaine, The information I sent you is all that you need to order a copy of the ship manifests (passenger lists). Since you are asking about two separate ships, you will need to order two forms to fill out. Castle Garden was being used during the time that the two people you are interested in arrived. When you fill out the port of arrival on the form, put "New York, NY (Castle Garden)". That worked for me. Use the link below to go to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) page for ordering forms. You will want to order NATF Form 81. The site is very user-friendly. You just email your request and fill out the form when it arrives (with the info I gave you). What you usually get back is a copy of the first page of the ship manifest and whatever page the person you want is listed on. If you want the "entire" ship manifest, you must state so, but it could get spendy. Charges are by the page. Sandra in Oregon http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/ordrfrms.html Also... if you would like to see a picture and bio of the ship Schiedam... use the following link and then choose "Magellan - The Ship Navigator". The ships are entered alphabetically. (There is no info on the Herder as yet). http://www.cimorelli.com/safe/shipmenu.htm Best wishes and much luck on your quest. Sandra in Oregon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine Gervasi" <eandtgervasi@earthlink.net> To: <kieffer@pioneer-net.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 2:18 PM Dear Sandra, Some weeks ago you sent me the following information for which I am very grateful. I am helping an elderly gentleman who has been researching Fredrick Hueter and Diana Baker of Nansemond County VA without success for many years. The county records were destroyed and death certificates had no information about their origins. Marriage record AND death certificate do not show any of these answers although his death was reported by his own son!!! I believe that Mr. Hueter came to this country and managed to not offer any information relative to his arrival. I do not know how he arrived here nor WHERE HE LANDED. Census records suggest that he arrived in 1873 and I know that he married Diana Baker in 1886. Do you know where the passenger list records of the Schiedam and Herder can be found? Perhaps they will offer some clue. Passenger's Name: Friedrich Hueter Age: 20 Gender: Male Occupation: None Last Residence: Germany Date of Arrival: Jul 12, 1880 Final Destination: USA Purpose for Travel: Staying in USA but not a citizen Ship's Name: Schiedam Captain's Name: Chevalier Manifest ID Number: 35723 Port of Embarkation: Rotterdam Mode of Travel: Steerage Passenger's Name: Friedrich Hueter Age: 16 Gender: Male Occupation: Merchant Last Residence: Prussia Date of Arival: Aug 28, 1878 Final Destination: USA Purpose for Travel Staying in USA but not a citizen Ship's Name: Herder Captain's Name: Brandt Manifest ID Number: 34900 Port of Embarkation: Hamburg & Havre Mode of Travel: Steerage Thank you. Looking for any Brockshus coming from Germany to Port of New York. The name is so rare they would all be related. I know some came 1860-1870 and the rest came in 1879-1880. Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated. Carol

    3. Hi again Helene, Use the link below to go to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) page for ordering forms. You will want to order NATF Form 81. The site is very user-friendly. You just email your request and fill out the form when it arrives (with the info I gave you). Make sure to list the names of all the individuals you are looking for. What you usually get back is the first page of the ship manifest and whatever page(s) the people you want are listed on. If you want the "entire" ship manifest, you must state so, but it could get spendy. Sandra in Oregon http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/ordrfrms.html PS: I think you will find this an excellent site. After clicking on the following link, choose "Magellan - The Ship Navigator". I think you'll really like this. http://www.cimorelli.com/safe/shipmenu.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "MikenHelene" <carsonmh@volfirst.net> To: <Kieffer@pioneer-net.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 7:29 PM Thank you so much for this information. Can you I ask you one more thing?? How would I go about getting this passanger arrival record, I would want the page because I would want to see who else traveled with them. the ages seem to match up pretty well. Thank you again!! Helene
